MS and Tattoos?

Hello everyone,

Sorry for random question.

I am booked in for a tattoo (to cover old silly tattoo) and it suddenly dawned on me.

Is it safe for a person with MS to get a tattoo?

Anybody had one since being diagnosed?

Thanks

Sam

Yes Sam, had four since diagnosis, mid life crisis & all that!!! I know its maybe mad, but I have two on my left side, didnt hurt at all, numbness, didnt feel a thing!!! Tracey x

Yes. Why wouldn’t it be safe? Use a reputable studio and follow the aftercare instructions. Enjoy your new tatt! Love mine.

I’m thinking about one too . Can’t afford a porsche or a harley for my mid life crisis but a tattoo is a possibility! Go for it

Look up - google - ‘Buttock Tattoo Terror lands Rotherham Pair in hospital’.

I have had two in the last 5 months. Had no problems with them, despite being on immunosupprestents. Am going to have more. Think I might be addicted lol xxx

I think that there might be a problem with “prison tats” and having an MRI because the ink used in such amateur tattoos sometimes has metal in it unlike proper ones. (The consent check form for MRI does ask about tats at least it does at my hospital). I don’t think that anyone on here had theirs done by Gripper on B Block

It’s a damn shame my numbness is in my hands and feet and i ain’t having them tattooed lol

I read somewhere about tattoos not healing properly with MS and MRI scans could be a problem so kind of freaked me out a bit but then i do tend to overthink.

I am pretty excited to get rid of my old rubbish, as long as you can’t see it underneath.

I never thought of that, perhaps it is a midlife crisis i am having.

Thanks for your reply.x

I like you attitude and wish i could be more like that, instead of the over thinking worrier that is me lol

Mines is to cover up an old crappy one i had when i was 17 and i clearly wasn’t an over thinker then, hence the reason for the crappy tattoo.

Thanks for your reply.

Although slightly terrified of the pain.

Thanks for your reply,

It seems we are all having a midlife crisis, i really just want an old one covered up, which i got when i was 17 and stupid lol

I have a strange feeling i really shouldn’t look that up lol

Thanks, i did read somewhere about tattoos not healing properly with MS, so good to know yours were ok on immunosupprestents too and I heard MRI scans could be a problem so kind of freaked me out a bit but then i do tend to overthink.

I have a feeling if all goes well with this cover up i might get another.

I have an old tattoo from 20 years ago but i can confirm i never received it in prison, nor have i ever been in prison lol

I did read about MRI’s and ink so started to worry.

Thanks x

I was stuck in a MRI scanner for an hour last July, nothing has fell off or melted, like everyone says if they are a reputable tattooist all will be fine, just a stupid fact, but apparently mascara is bad cos it has metal in it, doesnt seem appropriate to call it a “beauty” product does it?! Better stop wearing mascara then lol

kidding if you believed everything you heard I suppose we’d never do anything

No, your right we wouldn’t! My mascara is welded to my lashes, takes some getting off!!! Last years MRI I was instructed to remove it, took an hour, not really, but it was a job.Nurse said its got metal in it, was expecting to see flashing lights like when you put a metal rimmed plate in the microwave! Anyway, it was a random trivia fact I have in my head, not much else to be honest, but it might come up on the Chase 1 day? you never know!!! Tracey

I have heard people who (unlike me) know about these things that those on monoclonal antibody drugs (Tysabri, for instance) can have trouble healing as well as they ought. I have never heard that about MS itself, though. But even this was told me in the context of really heavy-duty surgical procedures like dental implants that involve driving foreign objects deep into the jaw bone and where slow or imperfect healing can land you in big trouble, fast. I doubt whether this concern would stretch to something relatively superficial like tattoos, but I don’t know for sure.

What about asking your neurologist or MS nurse?

Alison

Imagine you could bet the chaser with that one. X
