What shall I wear?

I’m over the moon that my son has just got engaged! It’s great news but I’m already having a panic as to what I should wear! I’m a 95% of the time wheelchair user and live in elasticated trousers and tops. I can’t wear pretty shoes and haven’t worn dresses or skirts for years.
I’ve got plenty of time as the wedding isn’t till October 22. I want to look nice but can’t get my head round what I should wear!

Hello Sarah, Lovely news from your son. As the Mother of the groom I’m sure you’ll want to make more of an effort sartorially.

Your budget will be a significant influence on what you wear, but I don’t see why you can’t wear trousers, you can get some really stylish palazzo pants but be careful about prints as they can look like pyjama bottoms! your shoes don’t need to have a heel and won’t spoil the photos, just compliment your ensemble.

The internet could be a place for inspiration, but don’t rule out chain stores. I struggled to find outfits for my niece and her brothers weddings five and four years ago, and ended up with a dress that I paid far too much for that I only wore once for one, and trousers I’ve not worn since for the other, and I wasn’t the mother on either occasions.

Whatever you wear on the day. I hope you have a lovely day.

Congratulations! I agree with Dolly on the palazzo pants. Add a loose top and ballet flats. I’d go for a solid color; no prints at all. Find a top that sparkles a bit.

Many thanks for your thoughts. I’m a little more relaxed about it today. Palazzo pants it may well be! x
