weirdo or what

Morning folks.

Can anyone explain what happened yesterday.

I have been put onto an ongoing balance programme at a local day hosp----its very embarrasing being picked up by the drivers who used to take my clients from work with me as the escort–

I was taken for an assessment LAP round the hosp!!! which to be fair I did, albeit a slug overtook me.

I was given an hours rest and then started on a balance assessment. I felt I was doing quite well (even though I was holding the bar with two hands),but I was asked to turn and face the long corridor to attempt the heel to toe.

I then started walking backwards in random steps,I was holding the bar but kept stepping futher and futher back so I had to let go and continued staggering backwards. The nurse came to support me but no matter whether I thought about walking or read a poster as distraction my legs refused to do anything.

Then after a few minutes my legs came back so we just walked the length,as curiosity she asked me to do the length backwards and its the best ive walked in months…what the hell is that about?

I was then horrified when I came home and slept for 5 hrs,I am the best Ive been for months but oh boy did fatigue hit home.

I scared me into thinking I will never hold down a job again…and I guess walking backwards well is not going to help much in life.

Any thoughts much appreciated

Hi Pip, I used to be good at walking backwards!!!

I asked a veteran MS friend why this happened and she said something which made complete sense.

It is because in walking backwards you don`t have to lift your toe end. I suffered with foot drop well before my mobility went altogether. But sliding my feet backwards was how I walked for a while.

Thanks for that Poll and yes if I think about it walking flat footed is one of my problems.

I find coming down stairs very difficult as my foot doesnt seem to want to flex at all,so I sort of use my hips in a far too difficult to describe way and my foot stays flat.

One of the nurses laughing said you can go to asda now as long as you go backwards and we can run off laughing before we see you!!

Wonderful lot the caring profession eh!

Sorry again about all the bad luck your family seems to be having.

Hi Pip, there is actually a keep-fit theory about walking backwards… read it somewhere… possibly American… Lol…

I did actually see a man walking backwards in local park. Looked very strange. Not sure if he was doing it for keep-fit reason… esp as there was a large psychiatric hospital just across the road.

Weird. Don’t think I’ll try it… knowing my luck I’ll go arse over tit.

Te he he I’m sure you can guess what went in [filtered word] over tit

Funnily enough yes I can fill in the blanks, and the hosp over the road doesnt inspire me with confidence !!!

Just going to try walking backwards now

Hi, me again. Howabout coming down the stairs backwards? As long as you hold onto the handrail and make sure the stairs are clear of obstacles.

Hi all was just reading ur posts about having to walk backwards it reminded me of when the physio told me that i actually walk with toes curled to help with balance and i didn’t even realise i was doing it.

spike milligan once did a song called “i’m walking backwards for christmas, i’ve tried walking sideways and walking to the front but — said you stupid little (rude word)”

it’s a shame i can’t remember all the words because it would be good to sing whilst you’re walking backwards

Poll you are a STAR

Yes it works and doesnt hurt my hips…yiippeeeeeee.

Coming down backwards although it sounds dangerous is safer than how I did it forwards.

Where would we all be without all the suggestions that ping about on here.

Hope today is a good day.
