update on sis in law in Canada (not MS)

Morning guys!

I posted a bit back about hubby`s si in Canada. Many of you sent replies of support, thankyou again.

Well it was a couple of weeks ago that we heard from them , so i e mailed yesterday and got a reply today.

I am spitting nails in disgust at their health set up. Huh!

Cynth had a brain tumour removed a while back and this was followed by lots of radium therapy to her whole brain. She lost all her hair.Plus it made her short term memory poor. I did ring her a couple of times and she didnt seem to make sense what she was saying. I didnt mind that, but I think it may have upset her. My hubby cant bring himself to ring.

Anyway, she was due a PET scan to look for any other cancer in her body. They already knew about a lung tumour. The docs said, if there were no other cancers, then the lung tumour would be removed. Radium treatment would follow.

So, there has now been a delay in getting the PET scan, as her health insurance didnt cover it!!! This is a life saving procedure, for heaven`s sake!!! They tried other avenues for funding, which failed. They have had to pay $1,500 themselves!

She has had the scan and the results are due in tomorrow.

I know I have knocked the NHS, but we wouldnt have to pay for such treatment/tests for cancer here, would we?

Grrr!

luv Pollx

Hello Poll,

I agree that the NHS can really come up trumps in many instances. I can remember when one of my Dutch cousins broke her arm when she was over here in the UK. All the Dutch relatives were very impressed that this was set and mended without any fuss and form filling. But what poor Cynthia has to go through is diabolical. She must already be very worried about her condition so this can only make things far worse. There is nothing I can do of course, but very best of luck with the scan results. God bless.

Best Wishes,

Moira

Hi Poll

Wow, that’s awful. I know the NHS gets knocked here from

time to time, but when you hear things like your poor sis-in-law

and her family are going through, it makes you see things in a

different light.

I do hope she goes on ok and gets some good news soon.

I hope her results give her some better news than she has had so far Poll. Fingers crossed for tomorrow, Teresa xx

Hi POll

I’m sorry to hear this news about your sister in law.

But our health system does do similar thing only here they do it differently based on a postcode lottery or giving you a diagnosis that denies you treatment - many of us on here have been through this type of rationing.

I hope she has some good news about her results soon. I wish money didn’t have to come into the equation, but unfortunately we live in a very materialistic world and humanity seems to have been thrown out - baby with the bath water scenario.

Thinking of you all with love, Mary

Hope it comes back with positive results.

Thanks for the update as I’m sure I am one of many who wondered how she was but didn’t want to be the first to raise it.

Fingers crossed.

Pip

I know we all knock the NHS sometimes but really we are SO lucky to have it and have to fight to keep it.

It’s not perfect I know but it’s heaps better than most other countries.

I read somewhere that infant mortality in the western world is highest in the USA because so many women give birth without medical help because they are not insured!

I really hope your sis-in-law comes through this Poll.

Great news guys! Just read an email from Craig, (Cynthia`s partner of 25 years). The PET scan showed

NO other cancers! Whgat a relief…my poor hubby has shed some tears…but read my new post on el, to see another reason for his tears.

Cynth is having part of her lung, with the tumour, removed on 15th…chemo will probably follow and he said then she will be CANCER FREE!!!

What truly wonderful news. Yes, she still has a way to go, but everyone is feeling much more positive now. Where there`s life…etc.

much luv Pollx

Oh Poll that’s such a relief for you all. I do hope the op goes well for your sis in law on the 15th…fingers crossed. Much love Linda x
