Hello everyone, I’ve not been on this forum for ages but this time I really feel I need someone to advise me about trigeminal neuralga. I’ve been diagnosed with this complaint about 8 years ago now and it comes and goes. But lately its been almost constant and it’s hitting both sides of my face. The main trigger I seem to react to is a cold breeze and trying to eat any kind of solid food.
At the moment, the attacks are so frequent that there seems to be an ache in between them. It started on my right side, but now it’s like all the way from my ears to my nose on both sides are being hit regularly. Can anyone give me advice? I’d really appreciate it. Thank you.
I solved my deeply unpleasant problem with TN by taking vitamin B12 and might be worth trying to see if it helps.
“It is important to keep the body healthy to help manage the pain-pathways. Vitamin B Complex, especially vitamin B12, has some evidence in helping regulate nerve function and may be beneficial.”
Tips For Dealing With TN - TNA
Hi, sorry to hear this is flaring for you. It’s a horrible condition to have.
I developed TN a year ago, mine is constant pain - aching, altered sensations, stabbing , throbbing etc.. on both sides and all 3 branches. I don’t have the classic zaps that often.
If you haven’t , talk to your ms team about treatment options now that it’s gone back with the in between pain. There are many different types of medication that can be tried. If it’s not been done - Request a referral to neurosurgeon. I’ve also been seen by chronic pain team.
Classical TN symptoms can develop into ‘atypical’ constant ache/altered sensations etc. In MS there’s a higher chance that it affects both sides than in non MS. Definitely update your team.
I still haven’t found an answer to controlling this but learn your triggers, try to reduce those as able (not easy), try heat or cold packs (whichever works for you), meditation/mindfullness can be helpful and keep a pain diary to share a summary with your ms team.
Hopefully the symptoms settle back down for you.
