Hi, I’ve had facial pain for last 3 months and now diagnosed with likely Atypical trigeminal neuralgia.
I can find lots of info on classic trigeminal neuralgia but not much on this version. I have constant dull ache across eyes and upper jaw with intermittent tooth pain ( several trips to dentist but all is fine).
It’s made worse with talking, chewing, fatigue and stress.
I’m due to start Carbamazepine but would be grateful to hear from others with experience of this condition. Any management tips appreciated.
I solved my problem with TN by taking B12 and as it’s a beneficial vitamin, there is no harm in trying.
“It is important to keep the body healthy to help manage the pain-pathways. Vitamin B Complex, especially vitamin B12, has some evidence in helping regulate nerve function and may be beneficial.”
I’ve suffered with Trigeminal neuralgia since diagnosis, I’ve tried carbamazepine but turns out I’m allergic to it. I’m now taking baclofen for spasticity which calms it down a little. It’s a hideous pain that I’ve had to deal with daily. If you can take carbamazepine it will help with the pain.
Thanks for the reply, that’s interesting. I take 50mcg b12 daily since diagnosis 4 years ago. My levels are checked 6 monthly and mid- high range due to high dietary intake aswell.
