Well as I went home to bed last night, after only two glasses of wine, I’m feeling great today. Refreshed and happy and now have something to look forward to each/any evening. When I arrive this evening, I’ll give you my rendition of the Red Rose Café. My preferred version is that sung by Demis Roussos but I have a fair voice and have had a few drinks bought for me after a performance in the pub, either in our local or on holiday abroad, so I don’t think it’ll be too painful.
I’ll bring a homemade chili in my slow cooker. It’s huge and people can help themselves. See you all later. ![]()
(Pssst. Where actually were we last night?! Carole’s gaff? Pub? MS community centre?)
home made chilli sounds like a great idea
I think so. It’s freezing outside and the kidney beans are useful for ‘keeping things moving’ gently. ;-0
Do you serve cornbread with your chili? I hate cornbread. Can someone contribute honest-to-goodness Irish soda bread? Or scones with lemon curd?
scone wiht lemon curd you say? share mine… el who always has marmlase and lemon curd availablw x
Tonight’s venue is El’s house! Mum found a place online that’ll ship packaged scones, but I’m sure they taste better before they’re shipped overseas.
got to love Mick’s gin pancake recipe!
Poppy - if i sing then everybody will have to get totally pished!
dead chuffed to see so many friends came to my party!
Now as one, using Frank Gallaghers voice “PARTYYY!!”
For none UK members, it’s from Shameless.
sorry we just finished our cheesy soda bread - Nick Knowles recipe.
I rather like Micks recipe too. I’m keen to try a different gin everyday. Anyone else want to try a virtual gin tasting? Last night I finished the Tanqueray, tonight might be Bombay Sapphire, and I’ve just noticed ROKU Japanese craft gin! I like the sound of that. Maybe with some gyozas?
Snacks should perhaps change on a daily basis too? I’d like to try Poppy’s chilli. (I hope there’s some heat to it. And some sour cream & guacamole together with a few tortilla chips?) I rather fancy a few sausage rolls too.
I’m not too keen on alcohol (aka gin and/or wine for me) with sweet things. But were we to have a virtual tea party, lemon curd would be lovely. As would crumpets & proper butter (best butter as someone’s mother would say!)
The first person who calls me greedy can go to #*$^¥;!!! (Obviously it’s true, but being virtually greedy is allowed. Isn’t it?)
Sue
… I’m not singing … unless I’m very virtually drunk …
virtual greediness has many advantages. sour cream and guacamole with tortillia crisps sounds fab
M
what a coincidence Sue
My mum used to say Best Butter to distinguish it from the rancid margarine!
(I know I mentioned it to you before)
xx
Well, why can’t we have tea and booze separately? Keep the party going 'round the clock and just bounce back and forth from one to the other. Had enough booze for the night? Just stagger over for lemon curd and finger sandwiches. Have your fill of food? Go back and pour another drink. I think we could all benefit from a 24-hour party after a year of lockdowns. How many more singers can we line up? Just don’t ask me. I only sing in the shower, and the dog runs and hides.
Been making soda bread today! Really easy and impossible to mess up. I’ll bring it along.
I like that. Tea (maybe plus Hendricks gin & cucumber) with soda bread, lemon curd, scones, plus some actual tea.
Then back to the Paaarrrttyyy.
Must invite TraceyDC - she likes a party! Sorry, some of you don’t know her, but she was a stalwart of this forum. Plus loves gin, the reason why ‘there’s a pub double, a home double, then a DC double’! She’s not been too well lately, but that wouldn’t stop her!
Sue
Let’s hope Tracey is soon fighting fit and sinking some gin
We will require some seriously bangin’ music for all the virtual dancing ! Before my MS I had the grace and style and dancing skills of a wounded rhino, so one silver lining is that I no longer need to try. (in my head I can move like a cross between Patrick Swayzee [in Dirty Dancing] and John Travolta)
Mick
I have several points to make here. Mick, you may do all the dancing you like in your head - and indeed at a virtual party nobody would be able to see you - so do your finest virtual Swayze/Travolta moves IN YOUR HEAD! Please don’t attempt them in real life. A) it’s dangerous, and B) it’s frightening. Wounded rhinos would probably feel insulted, were they able to see you and should they have a sense of pride (doubtful).
My second point is much more fun.
TraceyDC would be delighted to join the party. She has been making her own gin! Apparently it’s very nice. So nice she keeps drinking it. This is secondary to her main occupation, which seems to be attending hospital. Most recently because of an allergic reaction to her Covid vaccination. Anaphylactic shock isn’t fun. (Apparently!)
I have a feeling that where TDC goes, her vast collection of AC/DC recordings goes too. So if you want any other music, I suggest we all bring some. As much as possible that’s not AC/DC. Much as I love Tracey, I don’t want to learn to headbanging in a wheelchair. Virtual or not.
Sue
Sorry to hear about TDC and poor Covid jab reaction. Fingers crossed she feels much better soon.
We could serenade her with Thunderstruck or Highway to hell.
M
So sorry to learn of poor TDC being so unwell. Hopefully she’ll be able to join the gatherings sooner rather than than later.
Last night I arrived at Carole’s house for the ongoing party. (I forgot the venue was changed). I realised the house was in darkness but thought I’d knock on the door anyway. That’s when I remembered the change of venue to Chocorange’s house. Except I don’t know where that is! Feeling very despondent when there was no response, I turned away to make my way back home.
Now balancing a slow cooker filled to the brim with chili and two, fresh from the oven soda bread loaves, whilst manoeuvring the motorised chair controls proved a little tricky. One of those lovely terracotta pots in the doorway, with colourful crocuses peeking out got toppled by my foot. (Well, at least I hope it was YOUR doorway Carole!). Cussing aloud at this mess and trying to upright the flower pot lead to the two loaves rolling to the ground. Even louder cussing followed. I had no option but to drive over them as I exited your property. I imagine either some hungry birds appreciated the kind gesture in the morning. I trundled home feeling miserable and cross, glad of the heat of the slow cooker on my lap, keeping my nether regions warm. See you all later this evening!
