I take Magnesium (Chelated) everyday alongside my D3, but only because I’ve read on health sites and also MS sites that as MS sufferers need it.
However every time I speak to my GP, specialist nurse, dietician and nuero, who apparently is highly regarded in the MS field here in the UK, they ALL say pretty much the same, if you feel it’s doing something then carry on with it, but theres no proof you need it more than anyone without MS.
My neuro actually said something like “you’re probably peeing more out than you’re absorbing, save your money”, adding, “stick with the D3 because there is evidence that it can help with MS” !!
I have to be honest here and say that over the 4 years since I was diagnosed I have gone and removed the Mag for a few months from my diet of meds, just to see if theres a change in my symptoms, and if I’m honest there hasn’t been anything noticeable to say that I’ve felt worse with or without it.
At the moment I’m back on it, but again only because I felt that I should give it another go because it seems to be the “right thing to do” after reading what other people with MS take !!.
I do take other meds aswell prescribed by my neuro which I guess will be having an affect one way or another on the MS, but Magnesium, well is it really needed or are we sometimes taken by the magnitude of having MS and will just try anything ?
Just a thought and I’m not looking to open an argument on this honestly.
Like my MS team said if “you” feel it works carry on !!
Hi I was taking tablet mag for a while. I did get constipation, so stopped taking them. Not sure if I can blame the mag. I was taking quite a few tablets (in DMD, vit D, Vit B complex), and wonder if it was the combination of tablets causing it.
Anyway the constipation has stopped for now. I eat bananas most days and they have a bit of mag in them.
In spite of daily Dantrium I often got spasms and cramp at night. After reading about magnesium here I bought some and I have had very nearly no cramps or spasms since.
Before I was diagnosed with MS I said to my GP, “I’m off to get some cod liver oil with vitamin D now.” He replied, “It hasn’t been proved you know.” I said, It can’t do any harm." GP says, “True.”
I guess Mag does work for some conditions that may be related to MS like cramps ect.
I have read on here and on other such sites that if we are taking D3 then we must take Mag as it goes hand in hand with D3, however when I put this to my MS team including a dietician and the neuro they both dismissed it entirely.
So maybe we only need Mag if we were say suffering from cramps ect and its not necessary to take it along side D3 ?
