damn I haven’t worked out those quotemarks yet !!!
and to Thatcher’s legacy as orchestrated by the ConDems (this is my daughter in the video that went viral at the time - she hates it now almost three years on !!!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKdKzalMhXc
I must admit that I am really suprised by all the vitriolic comments concering MT’s passing. Don’t forget that she was a mother, grandmother, realtive and friend to people who will be grieving her passing.
That said though and I know that a lot of people are going to jump down my throat for pointing this out and I am only pointing this out looking at it personally and from a view of DEMOCRACY which everyone on these formums porbably believes in. I will also add that I am completely apathetic when it comes to politics and this is me just thinking logically and not as many people in this country seem to do. The majority tend to think with their hearts and NOT with their heads.
People say that she ruined all of the nationalised industries that were big during the “Winter of Discontent”. The unions (and history has shown this) lead themselves to their own downfall as they wanted to take the power away from the ELECTED government (which ever party was in power) and this was totally and utterly UNDEMOCRATIC. The general pubilc were completely against the powers of the union and they actually supported MT which is why she was voted in and for the sake and safety of democracy she had to break the power of the unions.
Do I agree with her polictics, that I am not too sure about, but she is what the country needed at THAT time and how can she blamed for the mess that we are in know as it was the following Labour administration that caused the banking system to collapse by creating the useless powerless triumvirate of the FSA, Treasury and the Bank of England. It was this failure to regulate the banking sector and Gordon Brown’s decison to deregulate and not have a strong enough regulation (the FSA). I am not against any of the political parties as I am apathetic towards politics, but this is the cause of the current situation we are in a how can MT be blamed for a failure of government 20 years late?
All I am asking is that people use a dose of COMMON SENSE and THINK about this before they get so vitrolic about her passing and what her policies did. This is not about that: it is about the passing of a former PM that, like or loathe her, was probably the greatest post war PM this country ever seen.

I am not going to argue that there are areas of the country that suffered intense hardship. I did actually say that I didn’t agree with some of her policies like I said.
One interesting fact about the mines Pat which I actually found hard to believe but is true. MOr emines were close din the 60’s and 70’s than under Thatcher after the miner’s strike. hHe reason why the mines were closed was because it was cheaper to get the coal from abroad than it was to produce the coal in the UK. This and the fact the unions had caused prices to rise with wage rise demands. Again I reiterate that I am apathetic to politics, but economy of scale dictates that if ptoduction is too expensive and it can be purchased cheaper elsewhere then surely common snense dictates that you get it from the cheaper source?
Andy
Pardon my ignorance (university degree) but isn’t the greatest post war PM the one under whose term the NHS was set up- Attlee? The NHS played a huge part in the Olympics opening ceremony and is the envy of many other countries. Doesn’t he deserve some sort of respect for this? Interestingly, Bevan, who was also responsible for the NHS and the welfare state had a quiet funeral with only three mourners.
Marion
Forget about her RTB Scheme; forget about selling our Nationalised Industries; forget about the Poll Tax; never forget about the lives of working class people whose lives were devastated because of her policies.
But I think worst of all was the lives lost on both sides fighting to keep a lump of rock some 8000 miles away. This is proving to be because of that ugly three letter word OIL and for this alone if there is a God she has a lot to answer. This is non-political as I think the same of the Religious freak Blair.
My only wish is we keep out of Syria; look at what happened in Libya. We stopped Gadaffi from taking retribution on Benghazi; then the some lovely Libyan’s killed the US Ambassador there as a thank you.
By the way Anu your daughter’s video is great; she’s beautiful just like her mum.
What a World we have today; until we stop thinking about self and worry about our neighbour the World will get no better. This is the legacy we are leaving our children.
But Andy; our coal is now from Russia and most of our Gas; because we did not invest in coal we must now be cooperative to Russia.
George
I was thinking the same thing Marion, apparently being PM whilst a war is going on is of more benefit than saving people’s lives! History will judge her.

She was much loved by MP’s they gave their time up for her service, for free… Oh wait
4 grand each, wow love doesn’t come cheep.
Darren
There wouldn’t be this amount of vitriol if the taxpayer weren’t paying for the Empress Thatcher’s Fun Parade / Conservative party political broadcast today.
Remember, if you want to protest against the legacy of Thatcher & against the obscene cost of her funeral… WEAR RED TODAY!!!
Pat x
Red tee shirt, red shoes, red stick on glitter nails (applied by daughter!), red clip in hair piece (amongst the natural violet !) and a red ribbon tied to my car aerial
No, I’m sorry. Maybe tomorrow but not today. I may not like what the woman did for a living, but I will never rejoice at someone’s death. Someone’s mother, someone’s granny. I too opposed her policies and disagree with much of her work but today is not the day. A family has lost their mum and gran.
I think this article helps to dispel some of the Thatcher myth.
Of course, I am not apathetic about politics and understand that importing coal from Brazil, mined in part by child labour, is likely to be cheaper, but at what cost?
I’m not rejoicing at her death, and doubt that many people actually are - I’m protesting at her legacy and the £10 million funeral that we are forced to pay for in the middle of the deepest recession since World War Two resulting in cuts to benefits and services.
Excellent

[/quote] Your right George , my hubby works in the port and twice a week coal is shipped in from Russia and China, Most Seafarers who bring it are on less than our minimum wage. The Rich get Richer and the Poor get Poorer ,
Thanks George we did this in October 2010 as part of The Broken of Britain’s campaign against the then just announced welfare cuts which is why it’s on Kali’s YouTube channel. She was only 11 then (almost 14 now) and hates the video (she’s now a seasoned performer with a very cool dip dye!!!).
Wore red blouse to lunch club today (sheltered housing). Everyone most impressed when I told them why.
Mostly in their 80’s but good working-class bunch who stick by their old Labour values… and they remember what it was like before NHS and welfare state.

I’m wearing a red gingham cowboy shirt a la Jimmy Somerville in The Communards during Red Wedge Tour (and yes, I was there).
Also black & red hi-top basketball boots. Both match my red eyes, obviously.
You do what you can…

Well you sound an absolute picture !! The red eyes sold it. Xx
