I know I am not the only one to suffer from depression but I didn’t know I had it. Why is it men don’t like to talk about their health? women seem much better at bearing their souls where as men keep that stiff upper lip. here is a bit about my story on my blog http://disableddon.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/talking-about-mental-health-issues.html
I wrote it after reading about a woman coping with postnatal depression. I will never experience childbirth but I have had depression.
Yes, people can suffer from depression and it go un-noticed by the person or their nearest and dearest. Mild or medium depression may not have many outward symptoms - just feeling down and rather unresponsive. The grey or black cloud hanging over your head may not easily be recognised either. Its only when symptom become more obvious that folks will seek help.
It is known that women may recognise that they don’t feel right because they do find it easier to talk about feelings. Thankfully many men are now finding it easier. I know my partner does - thank goodness.
Yes, it is possible to not be aware that you are suffering from depression. Symptom of mild or moderate depression may go unrecognised especially if the person is just feeling down, a bit unresponsive and/or finding it hard to cope with work or daily life. Even the grey or black cloud which hangs just above the head may be un-noticed for what it is. There are many and varying symptoms for each person. I have known of folks suffering for years unwittingly without help.
Yes, women do tend to be able to talk more about feelings but there is a trend now towards men being able to do this more like my partner. Thank goodness.
