Swallowing problems???

Hi,

I have rrms. I keep getting problems swallowing pills get stuck in my throat and bread etc. It comes and goes. I did have a brain stem relapse a while ago and it affected my swallowing. I have also had stomach problems. So not sure if this is ms related or stomach problems. Any help please ?

Hi, first off - have you contacted your MS Nurse? Also, ask for a referral to your hospital’s speech and language department; they can assess your ability to swallow and provide advice/therapy to help.

In the meantime, try taking tablets with a spoonful of yoghurt (the advice I got from the S&LT team that I see). Have a glass of water handy when eating to sip from time to time to keep everything moving on down.

I also try not to eat on the move, or slouching on the sofa - always sat upright at the table, small bites, chewing food thoroughly and taking sips of water regularly. A Victorian Governess would be proud of me
