I suffer really badly with my hands. My doctor thought it was arthritis to begin with. I couldn’t straighten my fingers and it was very painful. This was about 18 months ago.it isn’t too bad now thank goodness. I can straighten my fingers now but still have problems. I have had to buy gadgets to help me in the kitchen.
I suffer with painful hands, I too struggle to do things for any given time, I can’t do x stitch or hold a book anymore, open jars, I can straighten my fingers, but it’s the pain, struggle to do buttons, all sorts of things, its a bloody nuisance.

Sorry to hear you can’t do what you like doing… How long has it been that way for you? This morning my left hand has been in so much pain to straighten out my fingers. I feel as though they will crack. Another strange way of describing it x
Hands are a new symptom for me so as you do - I googled what these new symptoms were and the first thing that came up was arthritis. I actually did think I have that but the more I speak to anyone, it is also to do with MS. Have you taken anything for it throughout the time, or has it just gotten better itself? Sorry you can’t do things easily - MS really is rubbish
Mine have been like this for a few years, when covid is over I will visit my GP just to see whether mine is arthritis, MS nurse doesn’t think it is, she thinks it’s more spasms, I know it’s not carpul tunnel, because I’ve had 1 of my hands looked at and straight away the surgen said it’s not that. Whatever it is, it’s very painful. Good luck to you.

The problem Im having with my hands is different. It isnt painful..it
s like a fatigue after doing things like sewing.
I have problems touching forefinger to thumb…like you do to hold a needle.
Also it can be hard to keep my fingers away from thew rong keys when typing.
I had a carpel tunnel test and it wasnt that.
On my last EMG test, it showed pressure on the ulnal nerve in the left hand…???

Hi, yes I have stiff hands. It’s been happening for a few years. Driving long distances is hard as they tend to ache after a while. However, I feel mine is more arthritis than an MS issue. As well as having a stiff right hand (I’m right handed) I also have painful clicking thumb joints in both hands and my ring finger doesnt bed in the joint near the nail, if fact all fingers are pretty bad at that on the offending hand. Yesterday, I had an xray so just need to wait for the results… I also get pains upto my elbow and sometimes my shoulder too. Also my ring finger knuckle is quite large hence why I think it’s arthritis. Sharon
Thank you to everyone who took time out to reply, and I do hope things improve for us all
I guess I need to call my MS nurse to discuss all of this. I have googled my symptoms and it has come up with trigger finger or arthritis. My other fingers do hurt but they aren't as bad as my ring finger on my left hand - that has to be the worst and I feel as though it is swollen because I found it so hard to take my rings off the other day. I haven't put them back on ever since because even that hurts! Hopefully I can come up with an answer soon..

Hi there Yes, I also suffer with arm and hand pain and have done for at least the past 10 years. I can only describe my pain as feeling as though hands were on fire and being crushed by an industrial vice at the same time…it was awful. The pain got so bad about 5 years ago I was to have my right arm amputated. Sounds crazy but the pain drove me to that point. I started off Duloxetine and Amytriptylin (please forgive my spelling) with paracetamol and Ibuprofen…they did help for a while but am now on Morphine patches (Fentanyl)125mu and they have been my god send to helping me manage the pain. Please speak to your GP to rule out things like Carpal Tunnel etc and they will come up with a pain management plan with you. Best of luck Jo784
