SPCs/cranberry tablets

Hi all. happy new year.
I have realised something which I want to pass on incase it just might help someone.

I’ve had an SPC around 11 years. 90% of those have been really good.

The last 2 years…not so great! UTIs, by passing, spasms, pain and feeling lots of uncomfortable pressure in that area.

My weekly catheter changes became 3 weekly and even 2 weekly…all due to blockages. I could see bits of ‘gunk’ in the tubing.

I have taken a good quality cranberry tablet daily, as I was told iit helps keep the bladder clean. I’ve had botox twice.
I dont think it helped much.

2 months go, I stopped the tablets.
Yesterday i had a 4 weekly catheter change. Then I realised I see no bits in the tubing and havent by passed for a while either…

I reckon those tabs were too aggressive and were taking some of the lining off my bladder wall.

Any thoughts on this?

Cranberry in various forms (berries, juice, tablets) has long been thought to have properties for alleviating UTI’s etc. but the last thing I read suggested this was a placebo with the possibility of benefitting just one bacterial strain.

Best to stick to an antibiotic such as Nitrofurantoin :+1:

Hi Bouds. To be honest I don’t hold much with them, I was always getting UTI’s so starting taking them, took them for a good while, sadly still got the UTI’s, so stopped, did nothing for me.

Hi Bouds
I’m with Jean, took them for a while and they did nothing to stop UTI’s. Just more expensive pee.
