So fed up..... Might not be MS related

I started to get a cold a couple of weeks ago but last weekend it got worse and I was sent home from work. Since then a badxough has developed. I’ve never had a cold to last this long before. To make matters worse I have this constant feeling of nausea. I can’t shake it off, everyday I have felt ill. Before this started I was feeling dizzy/light headed everyday these things might not be connected. Now I have a headache on top of it all. I’m so fed up, I don’t know what to do for the best. I don’t think it’s ms but Ms works in strange ways. Any advice is be great

Hello Minnie mouse

Nausea plus dizzyness/lighheadedness could be vertigo. Which could be an MS symptom. Possibly one sparked off by the virus you’ve had.

Assuming it is a virus and not something bacterial for which antibiotics could be useful. Have you seen your GP re the cold & cough? Or are you just taking over the counter stuff? If you haven’t seen a doctor, maybe you should and talk about the nausea and dizzyness.

If you become convinced that it is vertigo, it could resolve on its own, but there are some exercises that you can do to help it. Try doing a web search for vertigo exercises.

Hi, I think its gone on long enough now, so ask for a gp appointment. If youre not up to going to the doc`s then ask for a home visit.

I phoned the doctors yesterday hoping to get an emergency appointment but there wasn’t any. Receptionist had just a good bedside manner. I need to phone up at 8am on Monday to try and get an appointment.

Out of hours GP appointments can be made by phoning 111. I’ve done this a few times and got to see a GP at the hospital out of hours clinic.

I had dizziness for a few months and went to the gp and he said it was an inner ear thing most likely caused by ms. A week later I got a cold and then all hell broke loose. Really painful spasms and woke up the next morning with no feeling at all on my right side. I thought I had a stroke but after sleeping for a whole day the feeling started to come back but it was a while before I got back to normal. Well as normal as I get. After a telephone consultation gp advised that it was the cold infection causing my symptoms to go into overdrive.

Its quite possibly ms related but best to get it checked out.

And here’s me thinking that the cold would have nothing to do with my ms. But what you said would make sense. Never had a cold last this long, going through so many tissues. It’s the constant feeling of sickness that is dragging me down. I do worry if I manage to get a GP appointment that they won’t have a clue.

Sounds like your cold is causing sinus and ear issues, perhaps that is why you feel sick and vertigo. Some colds can just keep going, with or without MS.

Are you taking some extra stuff to support your immune system.

Having a cold, or a temperature can spiral you into a pseudo relapse. Its no fun is it. They will just say to rest, and take it easy thats all they ever say with colds lol. xxx

That’s why I have put off seeing a doctor, I’m not the type of person who goes to the doctor due to a cold but I have never felt this bad just down to a cold. It feels like it’s never ending. I’m just getting more & more fed up. It’s been over a week now

There are some pretty awful bugs about - some of my family and friends have had stinking colds and flu type viruses that seem to go on for weeks. Touch wood - l have managed to get away with just a slight cold and tummy upset. l take lots of supplements - especially vit d3 - and all the B vits - Turmeric and omega 3 which l feel keeps away the viruses.

l shall have to touchwood now l have said that.

Hope you will be feeling better very soon.

Poor you, some colds though can last several weeks sadly. sending you a big hug.xxx

Good news I have a doctor’s appointment at 10am. I still feel awful and now I have a really bad neck pain. I think I’m falling apart

Doctor seems to think that this is a nasty bug that is going around. I don’t think I’ve had a bug that has lasted this long. Feel daft, started crying just so fed up with feeling like this. And not knowing what to do for the best. She is given me something for the nausea. Hope it works. But now on top of it all I have a really bad neck pain

Aw poor you. I should put yourself back to bed with a hot water bottle and see if a bit more snoozing helps. Maybe swap your pillow, it might help the neck pain. Something I only realised relatively late in life is that you need a firmer pillow to sleep on your side to support your neck, and a softer one to sleep on your back. As I often swap positions in the night (mostly due to crappy uncomfortable legs), I also swap pillows.

Hopefully the virus will get better soon, and with it the nausea and other symptoms. There are some truly evil viruses around. It sounds like you have one of them.
