I’m a bit tuned out of the whole referendum thingX I’ve though no for ages. However if ed milliband keeps speaking about it I might change my mind lol
Don’t be too hard on Ed, because without 40 odd Scottish MP’s Britain is unlikely to see another Labour Government. Please don’t leave us alone with the Old Etonian Party.
Listen hard to Ed and David coz that is the future if we vote no. Far better taking a leap of faith and being in charge of our own destiny. At least then we will actually get the govt we vote for.
I was more speaking about him as a person not what he was saying. I’m not being cruel I’m just not a fan. And I know it’s the politics u should listen to not just the person.
Personally, I could care less about losing 20-odd Scottish MPs (but it mightg make the Labour Party sort itself out).
Being ENGLISH, I object to decisions bein made on my behalf (well, that’s how they tell it) by a bunch of Scots.
I really don’t care what party they come from - Cameron is only first generation English, Gordon Brown, Tony Blair, Alistar Darling, Willie Whitelaw, the list is a long one, and we could have done without any of them. I really don’t think that the Millibean has thought his position through.
Scottish Independence could well mean HOME RULE FOR ENGLAND.
Geoff
Hmmm
Well Geoff welcome to our world. Scotland has been ruled by a Westminster government we didn’t vote for in 23 out of the last 35 years. And be careful what you wish for, there are actually currently 41 Scottish Labour MPs in Westminster so if the vote is yes in September you had better get used to the Bullingdon boys coz they may well be lording it over you for years to come. Think what that may do to your sick and vulnerable. We currently have more Pandas in Scotland than Tory MPs, there is one, so as their brand is so toxic here there is not much hope of a comeback. Ergo HOME RULE FOR ENGLAND may well be the worst thing that ever happened to you. Personally I am with you on this one, I think you should get rid of this Scottish millstone which is round your neck and get the freedom from us which you crave. And you will be pleased to learn that it is Englishmen who are making this a distinct possibility. Every time a minister from Westminster comes up here and lectures us on how we are incapable of fending for ourselves the Yes vote rises. So, keep em coming! Gary
People have short memories. Labour totally screwed up this country. Alex Salmond and Ed Miliband say so much waffle for votes its a joke. Ed Balls is just scary if he was ever in charge of budget we would end up as a 3rd world country. Anyone ever watch him with his goldfish eyes and nodding like some stoned head banger at prime minister’s question time
Cameron has his head screwed on this don’t mean I agree with the fiasco and lack of specialists with PIP.
Scots should be careful what you wish for as if the sheat hits the fan again with world economy again would they really have the deep pockets or borrowing power to ride it out?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want a Labour government either. If you think Cameron has his head screwed on then his thread must be broken. There is a constant erosion of your NHS, a manipulation of the news which comes out re your NHS, have you noticed there has not been one positive outcome re the English NHS since 2010. That may be a good enough reason to grind down the free at point of use element, at least in Cameron’s eyes. That is not to say I am behind Salmond either. What I am behind is Scotland, the first thing that would happen post independence would be an election. Far too many people here in Scotland, and further afield, think the vote is for Salmond and the SNP. We had that 3 years ago ang the vote this time is for the right to decide our own direction. Everyone should be wary if the sheat hits the fan again, all world economies are fragile. The current UK boom is built on the same shifting sands of the last bust and the concrete basis which it is claimed to be built on does not exist. The budget last week was a mini giveaway with no backup. If we are such a drain on the UK finances why are they busting a gut to get us to stay?
I gotta be honest & have a huge amount of scot friends , if they want out fine no probs but ALL politicians are liars & thieves scottish or english & as for balls miliband & salmond & cameron i dislike them & ukip farage i detest, this time when voting comes i aint got a clue monster loony party is on the cards & looking good
i wonder if theyve ever had a 6ft 2 long haired 1 eyed shaky biker stand for an election …
We are a small country and you want to make it even smaller just because you say wee and drink scotch more.
You have the highland branding thanks to the likes of Visit Scotland. The average Scot all watch X factor, Eastenders, LOL on Facebook, Eats to many Mac Donalds, Kebabs and getting fatter just like the English.
Highlander was just a movie ‘There can be only one’ is kinda isolated.
Well Hobs, being patronising, ignorant and insulting all at the same time may appear to you as attributes you should be proud of but they are hardly pertinent to this discussion. Think god the vast majority of your countrymen and women are not as narrow minded and may well be a bit p**** d off with your comments as well. What we want is the freedom (not said in a Mel Gibsonish kind of way) to make our own decisions in our own interests. Surely that is not too much to ask, it may be too much for you to understand, but not too much to ask. And, if we make a b***s up of it then we only have ourselves to blame. Believe it or not we do not all want the freedom to roam the highlands wearing a kilt with a tin of shortbread under our arms and a bottle of malt at our lips. P.S. I have been known to munch the odd kebab but then I have also been known to go to the gym 3 - 4 times a week
Ha I was only joking I really could not care and I guess alot of people in England could not care and for the record I like shortbread.
Personally I’m sick of hearing about it and sooner its over and done with the better, it’s the peoples right to decide and if it goes tits up then I’m sure your find a way out of it.
Maybe enrol Rab C Nesbitt
To Hobs, in what way did the Labour party/government screw this screwed up country as you put it, did they tell banks to offer more than 100% mortgages to anyone, did they tell banks to offer loans/mortgages in places like America, did they tell banks to buy up other foreign banks did they tell banks to be as greedy as possible, NO, NO, NO and again NO, the only fault to be laid at Labour’s door is they saved British banks from going bankrupt, get facts right before condemning, Brian
Yes, Brian, get your facts right before trying to rubbish what Hobs said. The bulk of our financial problems can be laid firmly at the door of the Labour party. Let’s start with their placing very large defence contracts without any penalty or cancellation clauses. Let’s continue with their saddling the NHS with a lot of future debt (now beginning to bite) with their Private Finance Initiatives and PPI. Let’s take a look at the Labour Chancellor (Gordon Brown) and his economics advisor (Ed “Loader” Balls) who sold off Britain’s gold reserves in the earlier days of the Bliar Government (“We will never need them”. No, they probably did not tell the banks what to do - they just encouraged them to do it.
Yes, lets get the facts right.
Geoff
Well when I said joking I was joking about the Scotts I was not joking about labour.
It’s not just the banks it was their spend spend spend and borrow more to spend spend spend some more.
A while back Ed Balls idea to getting country moving with the massive debt still carried over from the last government was to borrow and spend spend spend nothing learnt it would seam.
Also if I remember it was Labours relaxed bank rules (Gordon Brown) which allowed the british banks to do their silly risky loaning and investing!
Anyway what do I know I just watched BBC news or Sky news who said who reported and broadcast lies about poor misunderstood Labour and co.
I’m off now to get loads of bank loans and spend it so I can see if it helps me get a pay rise.
Well I hope you guys are happy with a long term Tory govt if we manage to escape. It is pretty clear to see that the English NHS is galloping towards privatisation and that the benefits cuts which have been announced so far are only the tip of the iceberg. I can see a future where, irrespective of which govt is in power, you will need a valid death certificate to get any help. What is occurring at the moment is a race to the bottom re help for the disadvantaged and vulnerable. That is one of the reasons I really hope we manage to convince enough people up here to go on our own. I honestly believe we will have a more equal society. What I also believe is that irrespective of which of th two parties in Westminster win the next election society will only become more unequal.
Oh I would not say happy and if someone sensible in Labour had some sound ideas etc I would vote for them, the guy from UKip just reminds me of one of them guys from Carry On movies, Lib Dems should be Lib Dims with the always sitting on the fence.
It will be interesting to see what happens if the Yes vote wins and visit this topic in 12 months time.
Anyway toodles for now
