Hope someone can relate. I am having times when my breath is catching… more noticeable when lying down. Also I have been dreaming I’m suffocating. I wake up in a panic.

This is horrible Holly, this sometimes happens to me if I lie flat on my back.
I suggest that you speak with your GP who should be able to offer some guidance
Good luck
Mick
Thank you Mick. Sorry you have this to deal with this awful situ too do you have any "coping mechanisms " hope you don’t mind me asking. thank you. Holly
No worries Holly, I try to sleep on my side, any choking type events are usually preceeded by horrendous snoring, when my wife gives me some hefty elbows to my ribs, at which point I turn (ungracefully) on my side, thus avoiding the choke situation. I also ensure that I have some water on my bedside table, the act of swallowing water seems to help my throat.
The other thing that did help a bit was practicing “proper” deep breathing which seems to help everything relax.
All the best M
Hi Holly, I have this too, dreamt i was choking on food and woke up choking for breath. I have raised the legs at the top of my bed by stacking books underneath, whcih helps a bit. My throat also feels like it swells at times and hard to breath, not sure whether its muscle spasms or something. I have a fan and water by the bed too, as being dehrydrated or too hot also seems to make things worse.
Have any of you had a sleep study done? It sounds like you could make use of a CPAP. I thought it was all hogwash when my neuro sent me for the testing, but I no longer have the nightly choking or gasping for air once I started using the machine.
Mick, have you considered the possibility of sleep apnea? It’s quite common, and treatment can be life-changing in terms of having more energy during the day.
Alison
Thanks Alison, I will have a look into this.
I have heard about the C-PAP thing, but if I can cope without I will do so.
cheers
M
