Throat problems

Morning everyone, hope you’re all doing ok. so I have SPMS, I have a whole host of symptoms, just like others on here, now on and off I’m experiencing a tightness in my throat, I’m finding this is happening more on a night, it wakes me up, simply because I can’t swallow/breath properly, it feels tight and it takes me a few minutes for it to release, it does, I go back to sleep and then it wakes me again, so does anyone else experience this ?

I have been dx with a multi-nodular goitre and it’s quite common apparently at my age (I’m 63) I notice it much more of a night time as a tightness like you describe, and feel like I can’t swallow if I’m lying on my back! Just a thought.

I sometimes have problems where i cant swallow at all its awful, and i don’t know if its connected to the swallowing but often i wake in the middle of the night gasping for breath. Its awful.

Hi Jean, do you have a profiling bed? I find raising the head ends helps if I have problems…a major one is swallowing saliva and choking.

If you dont have a profiling bed, try raising your head end of the bed with bricks or books.

Hi all, thank you for your replies, hitfi I will look at that and jaydee that happens with me and Bouds I had wondered about raising my head. I sometimes have trouble getting food down, it sticks in my oesophagus and takes ages to pass through, I’ve had tests done on this and been told mine is now sluggish

Yes i get that where i get food stuck especially with the first mouthful…then its not as bad.

That’s interesting as i have a goiter too.
