If you have an MRI on your spine and there are big problems noticed by the staff would they call someone to look at it there and then
Unlikely, but possible. If you tell me more, I might be able to give you alternative explanations (like needing help with the computer). Karen x
Friend went for a scan today and made her wait for a while after someone was called into the office and was looking at scan not what happened when I had MRI at same place few weeks ago she was worried said I would ask on here see if anyone else had this. Not sure what you mean about computer?
Should also say she is not suspected ms she broke her back few years ago and has been ha Ing alot of trouble with it again
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. The scanner is controlled by computer software (which is controlled by the radiographer). The radiographer’s monitor shows the images, but can also show various other options instead (e.g. settings). A glitch with the computer could involve getting someone else to help and it would just look like two people peering at the screen where the images are, but they are actually looking at something completely different. Another possibility is that the consultant asked for a type of scan that wasn’t already programmed in and the radiographer needed help to set it up. If they were definitely looking at your friend’s images, then it could have been that there was something wrong with the images rather than her back, e.g. some blurring or bad contrast. Or perhaps the consultant had asked for anything meeting certain criteria to be scanned in more detail (e.g. a bulging disc), but the radiographer wasn’t sure about something. It’s also possible that the radiographer spotted something and thought it should be looked at more closely, but wasn’t sure what scan to use to do it. Or perhaps he/she just wanted a second opinion on something which turned out to be fine. So lots of possibilities that your friend really shouldn’t worry about. Not sure if you want to tell her this bit: if they did spot something serious that needs urgent attention, then her consultant will be on the phone within a day or so. So no news is probably good news. Kx
Usually when people go for MRI there is usually something to be spotted. When there is nothing the technicians keep looking just to make sure they have not missed something. When I had an MRI in 1991 it took twice as long as expected, they sent me in twice and the second time they had more senior people involved. I left in a nervous wreck expecting all sorts of nasties! It was normal and when I told my consultant about my fears he said that they just wanted to make sure that in fact there was nothing! More recently I had a routine mammogram and I was asked just after the procedure was I there on my own. I was and left feeling that if I had been with someone maybe they would have broken bad news to me. 2 weeks of worry later I got the letter informing me that the scan was normal. Moral is dont read into anything!
