Ideas please

So I finally received my MRI and the next day received a call asking for another urgent scan.

Now I presumed (although I did ask theories) that I moved a little so they had to re do it. Today I had the scan and was told they wanted to do a MRI it my eyes which should take around 10mins. While in the scanner (as I’m sure you are all aware) they talk to you) well I had silence which was fine but after playing 9songs (which are on average 4mins each) I asked if everything was ok they replied shouldn’t be much longer. When finished they said (when pushed) they decided to do exta scans further down.

So 2 questions

  1. do you think they asked for an MRI of my eyes as they saw something in original scan or to make sure?

  2. why do you think they added in extra scans because they saw something? Is this normal practice

IM not a worrier but it all seems a little odd to me so wanted to see what others thought.

Thanks everyone and sorry for waffling

Hi Sammy,

Thanks for sharing and I can sense that you’re at least a little worried about this, despite you not being a worrier. Just try to not think about it too much, it’ll make everything seem much worse than it really is.

Sounds like the people looking after you are being thorough, which is a good thing. I think with MS, lesions of the optic nerve are common and they may just want to make sure that there isn’t anything there. MRI scans take a very long time anyway (my first one took an hour) and it can be quite difficult for the imaging technician to get the right views, so they have to keep adjusting the settings. A lot of the time I think the scans are done so that further scanning/views can be obtained if an obvious problem is noticed or if a particular view isn’t clear enough. I don’t think it’s odd at all.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Jenna

Thank you Jenna,

you are right this time it has got me a little rattled it was due to the urgent call the following day (we all know how long results can take) and the extra scan lower down they decided to do. It just seemed unusual but the only way to know for sure it to wait I guess.

Thank you for taking the time to reply x
