So, had my mri

although not ordered they took me out after a while to give me contrast dye. Then back in. I was in for nearly an hour. Not 20 mins as they’d estimated.

They gave nothing away but to choose to do contrast suggests they saw stuff doesn’t it?

Hi Tilly Mint

I’m sure you are glad that is over. I think I read (? On here) that contrast is used when having subsequent MRIs as they can compare it to an earlier one. I can’t remember if you’ve had one before?

Of course I could be completely wrong on this so happy to be corrected by someone who is more experienced than I am!

When do you expect to hear?

Jane

Hi Tilly Mint,

Don’t expect a fast response from your MRI. My last one took 4 months between the scans and an appointment with the neurologist. I was told, after about two months (by my MS nurse), that the neurologist was discussing the scans with a neuro-radiologist; presumably on how to interpret the images.

My previous mri was neck only. When looking for a trapped nerve. It revealed a disc bulge that the neurologist thought irrelevant.

Contrast is used to show “active” lesions (I.e. those which are still inflamed / where the nerves are currently under attack). It allows diagnosis of MS from a single MRI as having enhanced and non-enhanced lesions on the same MRI is one way of meeting the “dissemination in time” criteria. I’m surprised you had it unordered though as they are supposed to do specific blood tests before they inject you with the dye.

I didn’t get contrast when I had mine today (my first one) thinking it must have been clear then???

I’ve no idea. This is all so new and terrifying. Do you know when you can expect to hear?

2-3 weeks hate the waiting!!!

Yup. I’m going more and more insane.

I had blood test results today. My thyroid is slightly under active. This is brand new. It was checked in Autumn and was fine. Google brings up links with ms. Of course

This is the problem. In limbo. You make connections left right and centre that could be totally wrong. But where else is your mind meant to go?
