Hello all,
i was wondering if anyone within the community has tried probiotics. I was recommended them by a nurse following recurring UTIs but they made me feel very unwell and increased my med side-effects.
Any experiences?
thanks

I drink a lot of plain kefir, which is supposedly full of micro-organisms and eat plenty of vegetable fibre (again supposedly) for the little critters to chomp away at in my gut. I have absolutely no idea whether this makes a jot of difference to my health, but if it was making me feel worse I would stop for sure.
Hi @catherine I don’t do probiotics but do take D-Mannose since my last kidney infection following a UTI. No side effects and for the first time in years, have cleared most of the wbc out of my urine, might be worth looking into?
When I was a team leader in a care home, the infection prevention protocol was if anyone was on antibiotics they should take a probiotic to protect the gut. As you usually find as we age our bodies are less tolerant of antibiotics and they tend to cause issues like diarrhoea and can make you feel poorly. I know from my experience that my body is less tolerant to a lot of medications, so whenever I have to take antibiotics I either take probiotics or eat a diet high in probiotic foods to help the gut function, otherwise in the past I’ve encountered more issues. I hope this helps you.
