PIP Decision (update)

Its been 1 week since being turned down for PIP, seems like forever!!. Called DWP asked for copy of assessor’s report (told it would take 2 weeks) asked them why this long and how come the letter refusing me pip was dated 17th June and got it on 21st (no answer to that) been in touch with Neurologist, eye doctor, and see gp on Tuesday awaiting letters to support my appeal. another MRI on Monday and appointment with neurologist on 16th July. Oh I so wish this process was not so stresssful, its bad when you need to prove, no wonder people give up!!!

This is very worrying. I will be reassessed next February. Already worrying as dont know what i will do with out it. I cant even walk length of myself and thats on a good day. When is earliest you can apply for it as I here takes months to process your application. And do they stop your DLA when that is up if decision has not been made x

Im not receiving DLA, new claimant for PIP, but my understanding of this is that DWP will send out PIP claim form automatically (you said February) there is lots of information about this on GOV.UK website. hope this helps.

Hi Violet

,Im not on currently receiving DLA, new claimant PIP. There is lots of information on GOV.UK hope this helps. try not to worry before February. With any luck this goverment may change the guidelines on this PIP (I wish) and realise people with fluctuating conditions do not fall into there nice and neat criteria.

It’s sad to hear when people like us need it and those who don’t get it argh, do a reconsideration did you score any points? I got standard on both after reconsideration, atos nurse suggested I get it. Dwp was the ones who get the final say they wanted proof of my poor mobility but without dx I couldn’t give them it I also got a copy of my report the nurse was spot on. Dwp didn’t even mention my walking aids this system is a mess I had no medical proof so was hard if you have medical letters, support letter from gp make copy’s and send them in. I’m close to dx now so going to do a late appeal when I am for enhanced. Good luck x

I am not sure what points i scored. I was on low rate mobility until 3 yrs ago then applied for higher rate. Along with care component. As i almost have no balance . on bad days i cant even stand to brush my teeth or cook meal for myself. My application was done over phone. They just contacted doctor verified everything. Application went through quick and i was awarded middle rate care and high rate mobility. They never even asked me to go for medical. So not sure how they test you .

Hi izzy, I just wated to remind you that you only have one month to ask for a mandatory reconsideration (the precursor to appeal) from the date on your decision letter. In other words by the 17th July - don’t let the date go by waiting for Dr’s letters. You can send the letters late but not request the reconsideration late. Jane

Even if it is DLA you will be migrated onto PiP at a later date. The DWP will organise the change over - you can’t just claim yourself. The transfer will be seamless, there will not be a gap where one benefit ends before the other starts. I would advise joining Benefits and Work (£20.00 per year) for help with the application forms.

Thanks everyone for comments. Jane - Phoned DWP and think oh yeah I remember now, asked for reconsideration and I am awaiting a phone call from the case manager, lady said I wouold be better waiting on the phone call and it would be from that date (I think), oh dear so many things to do, by the 3rd July. then I need to tell her/him I want a reconsideration. bit confused. Do we need this stress? (I dont think so) what a system eh !! still got a sense of humour, not lost thaat yet.

Izzy I can answer reason why it takes 2 weeks for the report. The original has to be sent off for the copy to be done. This has a 5-7 day turnaround. This is cheaper to the taxpayer than copying on site. This then is sent 2nd class to you to save the taxpayer the cost of 1st class postage. The reason for the 4 days between issuing & receiving the letter is probably that it’s 2nd class and can probably be answer by the Royal Mail rather than dwp. Defo ask for a reconsideration to be done. This will allow you to supply further evidence to support your claim. Unfortunately we must all send proof as the benefit is for our needs not the name of our illness. By doing this hopefully only genuine cases will get it. Regards

My reconsideration took a month before they told me I had got it, it’s also possible to send in a late appeal if needed I was told this by dwp.

Hi Anonymous

Thanks for the information, I am new to claiming any benefits so I was not sure of the system. I am currently still in work at the moment and paying my taxes. I do not expect to get any preferential treatment as far as DWP is concerned but was just commenting on time scales etc. As far as benefits are concerned I agree with you in that it shoud only be genuine people receiving these.

Regards

Hi izzy Me again I forgot to mention ( blame the brain fade) that if you request a written report your time scales are extended by 2 weeks. Jane
