Afternoon gang!
Well the title of my post isn’t quite what happened!
We’ve had 2 of our grandchildren staying this week…Kate 14 and Emily 7. Took them out Tuesday and yesterday. Lunch and to see the new film The BFG. We’d met up with my sis and her 3 young grandsons. Everyone had a great time.
I had promised a picnic in the park today, but my ankle is still very sore and bruised, from a week ago when I trapped it between the wheel of my wheelchair and the footrest.
It was decided between me, sis and hubby that I should stay in bed and keep the foot raised. I did put frozen peas on it, but they kept rolling off!!
But I couldn’t let Emily down re the picnic.
So while I stayed in bed, a beach scene was made out of Hubby’s bed!
2 fleece throws were the sea and sand. We drew, coloured and cut out jellyfish, starfish and Dory .
Em put on her swimsuit, my straw sunhat and red sunglasses. She looked a treat! She searched for undersea treasure and found 18 pieces of glass gems in the flower beds. She built imaginary sandcastles and paddled in the sea.
Our picnic went down well. We had ham rolls, crisps, kitkats and mini magnums when the ice cream man came round!
Not a bad day and the sun is shining in Yorkshire !
Hope everyone else enjoyed their day as best they could!
Poll and co…Sophie had a paddle too!

Sounds wonderful - you are so creative Poll [ did l hear your hubbie say it is ‘creating’] – My pal Martyn helped me re-vamp or upcycle an old wooden bench seat that has a lift up top so l can store all my heated trays for parties in. lt is now a lovely seaside blue - only with old tester pots of paint we mixed. Then he has decoupaged me - with paper napkins - A row of beach huts along the back rest - and bunting made out of gingham patterned napkins and jeye cloths. Then he has rubbed beeswax over it.
Got the bug now!! - Keep seeing old bits of furniture that l would like to transform. Looked on ebay - and l have got the correct pva glue - Mod podge and foam brushes. Sent for more pattern napkins - so l now have a lovely green one with dragonflies and cow parsley - and one with a fox’s head.
l will send you a pic of our first effort. l have even bought some gingham chair cushions. l always make my own - but they were cheaper to buy already done.
We had a sea-side party - some years ago - for the Last Night of the Proms. We printed off lots of naughty sea-side postcards and stuck them all over the glass doors. Everyone dressed up - hankies on their heads or kiss me quick hats - sticks of rock - bucket and spades and fish and chips from local chippy. Might do it again this year.

Poll you are just adorable and sound like my kinda lady to be a friend of! My youngest granddaughter is a very"young" nine. She’s been desperate for a picnic on the beach with us this year. We’ve had an appalling summer so far and they’ve been on hols since June 30th!!! I think I’m going to have to improvise and do what you’ve done. She will be thrilled, I know. Even her 10 yr old console/game obsessed brother will love to join in this I know. Thanks!
I’m so glad my post has given you food for thought!
I love your ideas too!
It’s so expensive taking kids out, so a little imagination a d improvisation goes a long way!
