Physio

Hi everyone,

Had my first ever phsio appointment today - it’s been a long time coming!

It was a really positive experience. I got a temporary splint which is lready really helpful and I will be fitted for one.

She did make me take home a walker though rather than use my walking stick to learn how to use my left leg again. That is a bit harder for my ego to deal with!

I hope you are all well,

K

I visited my Grandad a few weeks ago and I tried his rollator… now I think I want one!

Yes, the ego takes a complete bashing with MS

Hi kwbeanz

This may sound silly, but I was just interested what the splints were for? Is it foot drag or roll, mine do both! Hope all goes well.

Hi K… yes agree that the walkers do hit the ego… but when you get over it they are a real help… esp if your balance is poor… but also I find it so much easier to walk and so less tiring. Is it the 4 wheel type? If not I think it’s worth paying out for a 4-wheeler. Argos do one for around £100 and I’m sure they’ll have second-hand ones on Ebay. I just think they don’t feel quite so much ‘zimmer frame’… and have a seat on them and an area for putting shopping etc. Once again, as with all these things, you have to remind yourself that it’s only an aid to make your life easier and help you to get around. Nothing more, nothing less. Glad the physio was a good experience, Pat xx

My ego is resting a bit more now as I have been out for walks, yes walks! Legs are feeling bit tired though - this is the most work that they have done for some time!

Jam, I have drop foot on my left leg, the physio is also going to put me forward or FES which will be amazing -she worked on the testing for this electronic tag.

Pat, it is a 4 wheel walker and I have to agree, it does make walking easier. So far it is only temporary until I learn to use my left leg again however, you never know!

Thanks everyone,

K

Hello, thought I would give you all an update on my progress at physio.

I honestly wish I had this years ago. I am doing so much better. The baclofen has reduced the spasticity and the exercises given to me by the physio have improved my posture so much. I now look up when I am walking rather than at the pavement!

When I first went to the physio, I struggled with drop foot and my posture was awful. In just two weeks I have graduated from a mobility scooter to the Delta walker back to my walking stick and I get so much more pleasure in walking now that I have a splint to help the drop foot.

I know that I am one of the lucky ones that can still exercise regularly but this improvement is a massive achievement and I am so proud of myself!

Thanks for listening, you guys ade awesome!

WELL DONE!!! Great to hear of your improvements! Pat xx

Hi KW

Am so pleased it has made such a difference for you, onwards and upwards.

Absolutely brilliant! Well done, now I know this I’ll put more effort into doing my physio exercises.

They make the world of difference! I am so much more comfident about walking. Long may it continue!

A good physio is worth his or her weight in gold. It’s 5 weeks since I first saw a physio (there’s one in Occupational Health at work, and even better, in his previous job he worked with MS patients) and the exercises he set me to do at home are starting to pay off - my balance is improving and I feel like my walking is better. I’ve even dared leave my stick at my desk while walking round the office - something I haven’t done for months.

Excellent news, really pleased for you. It does boost your confidence so much when you see improvement. You’ve proved that not everything just gets worse. We’re so lucky to have the support we receive from the many resources available. Well done.

Mitzi, that is brilliant.

Thanks for your well wishes guys.
