Occupational Therapist

I live in a housing association property and although it is a bungalow some aspects are no longer safe for me. They sent their own OT to see me who made recommendations then later told me it wouldn’t be done as they had no money left for adaptations and i needed to get my own OT.

I haven’t seen my Neurologist for probably 15 years and my MS Nurse for around 10 years. I live in Scotland and have no idea how to get an OT.

Ask your GP to refer you or ring your local adult social services and refer yourself.

Wishing you all the best

Is “they” the housing association or your local authority? As Pam says, you need to ring your LA Adult Social Care Dept and ask for a statutory assessment?

GP’s are not in this particular loop and the HA is the owner of your property, not a care provider.

The Housing Association sent their OT. My HA is believe it or not one that only lets their properties to people with disabilities . I have contacted the social work to get an assessment so :crossed_fingers:

It sounds like you’re dealing with multiple issues regarding your living situation and healthcare. In Scotland, you can typically access occupational therapy (OT) services through your local health and social care partnership. You may want to start by contacting your local council’s social work department or your general practitioner (GP) for guidance on how to access OT services.

Regarding your neurologist and MS nurse, it’s important to reconnect with them to ensure you’re receiving the necessary care and support for your multiple sclerosis (MS). You can ask your GP for a referral to a neurologist and inquire about how to access MS specialist nurses in your area

Thanks. I contacted the social work & got a telephone assessment. They will be providing a shower chair & grab rail. They can do nothing else as i am currently on the housing list for a smaller property & have been for 5 years. So it looks like im stuck between the council & my HA who will do nothing to make my property safe. Next step is to get MP involved. So fingers crossed.
