An OBE for Victoria Beckham?? She cannot sing!, she cannot smile!, employs people to take care of her children, and, when she was a teenager, enjoyed being picked up at school by her father in a Rolls Royce… (I admit that this was also the case for ‘our’ future king, but he did not have a choice and did not receive an OBE for this as far as I know…).
Danny Boyle, you refused one…, you’re an all rounder in every aspect, humble in spite of your enormous talents!
As we ‘speak’, I ‘OBE-ee’ all real genuine helpful sincere people, and I am sure that many of the readers here fall into that category! (next to my wife!)
“Tory donor David Ord, who has given the party £930,000, has been knighted for “political service”, while Dominic Johnson, associate treasurer of the Conservative party and now CBE, gave the Cameron family somewhere to stay when they left Downing Street in July.”
I was complaining earlier about the antiquated nature of the awards. Particularly those awarded a ‘Damehood’ (if that’s what it’s called). I know it’s supposedly equivalent to a knighthood. But it just doesn’t sound like it. To me it brings up memories of the “oh yes he does”, “oh no he doesn’t”, “it’s behind you” thoughts of pantomime dames. It seems somehow more appropriate when applied to Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, but Jessica Ennis-Hill?? (Etc)
And I always feel the most respect for people who refuse their offered awards.
