Anyone had any experience with the MS Team and Consultants (Dr Martin Lee) at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital?
We’ve recently relocated back to Norfolk but husband has remained under the care of his MS Team at the National Neuro Centre in London for now as he is comfortable with them (having had a rubbish experience with a previous consultant at another hospital in London). However the travel to and from London for appointments is a bit of a faff!
Thanks!
Hi,
Dr Lee is my consultant. I moved up to Norfolk in 2011 (I had previously lived in Aylesbury) I was diagnosed in 2003 with RR but now I am secondary progressive
When I first transferred to Norfolk I saw a Dr Dick, I am sure he is very well qualified etc but his bedside manner left me feeling frustrated and not understood. I asked for a second opinion of DMDs as i had recently had a bad relapse and didn’t know if I should try Tysabri or not … so I was then assigned to Dr Lee.
Whilst everyone is different, I wanted a consultant who was straight with me, who wasn’t vague and who listened to what I wanted to achieve and worked with me. In my opinion Dr Lee was just what I needed … he was tactful in setting out the likely progress of my MS, gave me all the possible options and did not make me feel pressured into doing anything I wasn’t ready to do.
Just recently at my last annual check up Dr Lee was on leave and I saw a registrar … at first I thought … oh no … they will just spout the official rubbish about trying to do exercise and taking rest when you need it etc but in fact I again found him to be pro active in making new suggestions and not dismissive of what I was saying.
So in short I would have to say that if you have Dr Lee you are lucky
. … the only down side is the usual waiting time at the hospital as they always double book appointments !!!
Hope this helps
Janet x
PS. The MS support team in my area (Attleborough) has been good in helping to support my application for PIP
Hi Janet, this is massively helpful thank you! It’s a shame that the neuros can be so hit and miss isn’t it. We had a really bad experience with the consultant who diagnosed my husband so when we got put with Prof Thompson in London we loved him and now we’re reluctant to go elsewhere. Interesting what you say about them double booking appointments, that doesn’t sound good!
