Hi, I wondered if anyone had any ideas about this one? For about a month now I have had horrible pains in my left leg from my hip to my knee when I sit down. This pain gets better when I stand up or walk. My leg feels very weak and trying to lift it (onto a foot stool) is very painful. Sitting in my wheelchair for any length of time is excruciating, stops me getting too tired but causes more pain - can’t win eh! If it was caused by my hip then I would imagine the pain would remain when I walk. I am getting quite concerned as this happened today when I was driving and pressing the clutch down hurt quite a lot and could be dangerous. Does this sound like some more neuropathic pain caused by ms? I am going to the pain clinic next week so will run this past them but just wondered if anyone else had had anything similar? Thanks, Lilbill x
Hi Lill, I am wondering if what happened to me is causing your pains hun.
When I was walking, I had to lift my hip and swing my leg out, to avoid tripping up over my left foot!
This caused me to have severe hip/thigh pain.
Then I bought my own wheelies, with no professional advice and ended up damaging myself. Because the chairs had just the one footplate, my feet were too close together and this forced my legs to splay out, which rotated my hip…hence distortion and pain!
It also caused me to bash my knees in doorways.
It could also be caused by the wrong support cushions.
Any good?

Hi I too have had a gradual problem with pain in my left buttock and leg! It had been coming on since July and I finally gave in in October as I just could not sit down! It started with low back pain, then muscle spams and now it is all of those with nerve pain to top it off! I am on max dose of gabapentin, cocodamol and ibuprofen, but the nerve pain persists. Heat is helpful. I am having physio at the hospital and the working diagnosis changes from a prolapsed disc to Ms neuropathy! I do feel like I have broken my hip at times! This started as pain on going from sitting to standing. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Polly, I think this could be something o do with my wheelchair as this pain only really started after our summer holidays when I used it most days. I was properly measured for my chair by our wheelchair services people so perhaps I should talk to them again. Thanks for the replies. Lilbill x
Sorry for not replying sooner. But yes, talk to your wheelie services guys.

An update on this horrible pain in my left leg! Apparently it is caused by trochanteric bursitis - inflamed bursa on top of my hip joint. Nothing to do with my wheelchair, the physio says it is caused by not walking correctly and because my left leg is much weaker than my right one. Having physio twice a week but not sure what’s going to happen as I can’t really change the way I walk! She suggested putting something in my left shoe to try to level things up, a podiatrist (?) - someone else to add to the appointment list! I need a solution soon - this pain is horrible, yesterday it went down to my shin via my knee, everything felt on fire. Sorry for moaning! I am used to pain and aches with ms but this is getting me down!
