Hip pain!

Sorry to G/C as I have not yet been diagnosed but just wanted a little advice.

I have had pain in mainly my right hip (but left one getting bad now) for about 2 months. It’s a dull ache that reminds me of the pain I used to get with very bad periods. I have read that MS does not cause you pain so is it not linked at all? I know if I go to the doctor she will say there is nothing we can do till we find out what is wrong. Thats what I am told everytime I go.

The pain is there the majority of the time including throughout a xmas meal last night which caused me to be so uncomfortable even sitting at the table.

So any advice, similar stories as I would like to hear them…

Thanks in advance x

Hi,

I usually have hip pain, but this I put down to one side being quite a bit weaker than the other, so I tend to lean more on the other side, and so my whole torso is a bit askew. I even find myself sitting in a chair with more pressure put on that one ‘strong’ side.

I hope that this is of use, but either way I hope that you are soon feeling much better.

I had horrible joint pain in my knees and hips and was seeing an osteo for years about it (which helped a lot but was expensive), then I was diagnosed and started on nerve pain medication (gabapentin then amitriptyline) and changed my diet (no dairy/sugar/gluten) and the joint pain has gone completely, which is amazing cause i’d had it for a long time and it was affecting my sleep. So in short I don’t think mine was related to MS but my diagnosis has helped it get better.

hi.

i had pain in my right hip. right in the joint. it was like bad tooth pain. i was in hospital for a week last year and i told my neuro about it and he had my hips exrayed. joints were perfect and he said it was nerv pain and upped my dose of gabbapentin. i must say the increase done the trick.

MS certainly can cause you pain.

Hi I’ve been having constant pain in both hips all the times when sitting standing and walking it’s making my life so difficult I’m struggling badly was just wondering if this is ms related or not . Does anyone else suffer with this ? Is there anything you have found helps to deal with the pain

So firtsly I don’t get hip pain…but who ever said MS doesn’t cause pain what’s to live with what I have to live with daily and it’s not just me, it’s thousands of other’s, MS does cause pain and it’s not nice, ok it might always be hip for some of us, but my god it does cause pain. x x

I have frequent bad hip pain right at the joint, I went to my GP and the pain was diagnosed as being caused by Bursitis. MS wasn’t mentioned by either of us, (I have had MS for many years and my GP is aware of this), I was given a prescription for Ibuprofen gel. I’m afraid to say that the gel wasn’t strong enough to ease the pain, now I take two 500mg of Paracetamol and 200 mg Ibuprofen (checked on the NHS inform website first and found that it’s safe to take them together) after about 10-15 minutes the pain eases.
