My 4 mile adventure

After a difficult 2020 both physically and mentally (not Covid related), my daughter set out ten goals for me to strive for. The first just going round the block in my wheelchair seemed impossible at first. I could hardly sit up straight and my feet kept falling off the footpad but I eventually felt a bit stronger and managed to get to the village by myself. Soon all the goals had been ticked off so my daughter decided we should try further afield. A muddy field with PYO flowers, free range chickens, veg, etc about a two mile round trip. But that was not enough! A trip to a local Fruit and Food stall outside the village was now on the cards and so last weekend I set off (with my daughter) on my trusty wheelchair reaching our destination just as the rain came down. After coffee and yummy purchases we set off. Unfortunately although there was a pavement of sorts, there was no dropped kerb where I could cross to the quieter back lane. Found a tractor turning spot, took my life in my hands sat in an island on the main road until a kind motorist stopped to let me cross to the lane. Got home wet but thrilled at my 4 mile adventure. This weekend I plan to shop in the local town 2 miles away. So at nearing 80 and more or less bedridden there is a good life to be had if you are just brave enough to embrace it. Keep smiling everyone if you can and “always look on the bright side of life” Essie x

Well done Essie. Inspirational to us all. Hope you have many more (safe) adventures.

This is wonderful! Keep going, and keep sharing your trips with us!

Great to hear that you life has opened up again. Just hope the thunderstorms take kindly on you and don’t come your way whilst you are out and about!

good for you essie. I am still waiting for my daughter to walk out with me lol.

I do take lucy to the park which is right outside our complex gate.

My journey in a wheelchair. I live in sheltered accommodation originally designed in the 80’s for disabled living etc.

To get out i have to negotiate a smaller frame doorway, then drive up a steepish corridor, the fire doors are closed…then open one, then more travel to the second fire door. then i have to get outside through opening doors, to throw food rubbish in the bin. turn back up a slippy slope to the main doors again which open and close very fast so i cant afford to stop to adjust anything lol.

then i tried the laundry, oh that is fun, again a weird angle to the door, bang crash get inside. the machines on a pedestal hum how do i put my powder in, then i realised before i can use the machine, i have to turn the power on, yeh you guessed it high up lol.

by the time i have set the machine then try to turn around in the laundry room bang crash and back out i have done a London Marathon.

That was my goal set for this week lol. Still paying for it. xxx

Brilliant, I savour these victories and put them in the “bank” for when I am not feeling so jolly. Keep on truckin’ (safely)

Great descriptions CC. I managed to hoover the kitchen then wash the floor yesterday, so currently stuck in a chair reaching for the laptop and bleating about how sore I am.
