Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with MS (relapsing & remitting) recently and a lot of the time, I really struggle with stiff legs and this makes it very difficult to walk.
I try to do light exercise (such as cycling and stretching. I have been told that swimming will be good but with coronavirus lockdown that hasn’t been possible as of yet). Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any tips for relieving this stiffness in legs would be great.
Hi. I wondered if anyone has used one of these electronic circulation machines for ankle / foot stiffness? They sound great, but a lot of money if dont help.
Hi Carole, That’s disappointing to hear. I was hoping it might help with my drop foot. I only have a problem with my right foot. It feels I have planta fasciitis, as had that b4, but without physio I’m a bit stuck to ease the stiffness. I wouldn’t describe it as cramping, more like I have the sticky side of a panty liner stuck to the bottom of my foot (if you can imagine that???). My foot cannt turn in a smooth circle only straight lines resembling a triangle! I’ve only been diagnosed since Jan, so all a learning curve. You recommend magnesium? Thank you Carole, appreciate your reply. Hilz
Unfortunately, muscle stiffness is so common with MS, you’re not on your own , theres so many of us who suffer with spasticity symptoms
Stretching out your muscles, and yoga, can really help along with taking magnesium tablets, and or magnesium spray , which you apply to the skin and is available from places like holland and barratt, and boots etc.
If you can tolerate taking baths, as I know some people with ms struggle with the effects the heat causes, then you could try taking a bath with epsom salts , this really helps with all over muscle stiffness, and is a really good way to relax.
Other things are massage either with or without essential oils. I get what I can only describe as a tight cramp on the sole of my feet , and what I do is I put a golf ball on the floor and I roll my foot over it , I find this really helps to loosen the tight sensations that I can feel under my foot.
There are also medications which your doctor can prescribe for stiffness such as baclofen. I hope you find some of these suggestions helpful, and you get some relief.
