Hi there
My first post on here and I’m just looking to get some advice from people who know and understand the condition. To introduce myself, im a 48 year old male, dad of 2, always been fit and athletic in the past. I haven’t been diagnosed but last year I saw my GP following about 2 weeks of weird symptoms which included pain in my arms and legs, weakness in my right knee and left ankle, pains in my shoulders, tremors in my hands and spasms in my hands, arms and face. These culminated in me dropping a kettle and a saucepan of boiling water after my wrist just seemingly gave way. I also had shadowing around my left eye and my balance was awful. After about a week I developed neuralgia down the left hand side of my face and my right thigh kept going numb.
By the time I saw my GP my balance was so off and my legs so tired that people I knew were slaking why I was walking funny. At times my speech was slurred and I was struggling to remember words.
My GP asked about my medical history- there had been a few weird occurrences like this before with one or 2 symptoms but never all of this at the same time. She immediately suggested that we try to rule out MS- I hadn’t even thought for a second that it could be anything like that.
I had some blood tests that showed low vitamin D levels and anaemia, and was referred to a neurologist. My GO suggested I paid to go privately for the initial consultation as the wait was about 6-8 weeks on the NHS and she was concerned that I should see someone sooner.
I paid! My appointment was set for 2 weeks later, but then cancelled as the neurologist had booked a last minute holiday with family!! I eventually waited 5 weeks anyway!!
The GP asked me to keep a diary of symptoms and o turned up with these. By this time I was pretty much back to normal except for the odd electric shock type jolt every now and then and some spasms in my arms or face.
The neurologist took one look at me and said he’d read my notes but wasn’t at all worried that it could be MS as I was a “strapping young lad in good muscular shape”!! He said that I had probably had a few of the symptoms and then had worried about them as they were unexplained and this had probably led to me worrying more and imagining symptoms. I’m not really one to imagine pains and aches, but he was the specialist after all and I was £340 lighter in the pocket. I went off with a spring in my step and told my wife I was all clear. She wasn’t at all happy and told me that I hadn’t imagined these things as she’d witnessed most of them!
Fast forward about 9 months and about a week ago I woke up with pain in my left leg and right wrist again and have since had about 8 days so far of all the same symptoms- but worsening. I can barely hold a knife to eat at times and im now worried as my kids have started to notice that my physical actions are a bit weird. I can barely get up the stairs at night and am tired all the time.
I wasn’t offered any tests by the neurologist and feel a bit like I was palmed off. Do these symptoms sound like MS to anyone on here. Should I be pushing for further tests or diagnosis? Whatever is up with me isn’t normal and im struggling to perform everyday tasks.
Would really appreciate anybody’s feedback as the neurologist left me feeling a bit stupid last year
Thanks in advance
I’m with Mrs Noel on this one. Doctors can turn on a sixpence when there’s new info to go on - mine went from breezy reassurance to all-business seriousness in a heartbeat, once I rocked up with some new symptoms that changed his approach. Don’t assume that yours wouldn’t do the same in response to changes that were deemed significant. You are making this stuff up, so don’t worry about that.

Thank you Alison. I’m booked to see my GP next week, by which time I’ll probably be feeling better and get fobbed off again!!
