I’ve had a problem with my knee giving way which my physio told me was due to me walking with my knee locked due to my thigh muscles deteriorating. She’s given me some exercises to strengthen the muscles which is fine.
However, I’ve had a couple of instances (one while going upstairs which was scary) of my leg being bent and it suddenly straightening. Also this morning when I woke up I had one of those lovely stretches. However, while I was stretching my leg straightened, bent, straightened and bent all beyond my control. It didn’t feel like my usual spasms but it was really weird and only stopped when I deliberately stopped trying to stretch.
Anybody else had this sort of thing or am I just strange?

Hi Sarah, I haven’t experienced anything like this…sounds awful! Hopefully someone else will be along soon that’s had this problem, in the meantime, take care. Nina x
Hi Sarah. I’m sorry too, can’t say I’ve experienced that, I’m quite the opposite, when I’ve done enough my legs tremble and give way. Sadly that’s the closest I get to going weak at the knees now. I hope someone can help.

Hi Sarah, I get the leg suddenly giving way. I describe it like it feels as if someone has kicked a football into the back of my knee. I haven’t had the leg bending and straightening on it’s own though… but it does sound like the sort of body confusion that MS can cause. Mixed messages and all that. Have you got an MS nurse? Would contact her if I were you, though not sure if they could do anything about it. Let’s hope it goes away on its own and stays away! Pat xx
Hi Sarah
No I haven’t had anything like that.
Good idea to have aa word with your ms nurse, if you have one.

Hi Sarah, Nope! I’ve had my leg straighten on its own usually a painful spasm taking a few seconds before I can move it again.& My knee’s give way as described by Pat.
Does sound a tad bit strange!

Hi Sarah!
Sounds like Secondary Dystonia. Unfortunately, it’s my overriding MS symptom.
The NHS link is very informative. Check it out here!
Best wishes
