keeping MS medication in the fridge

Hallo

Just a quick question, really, for those who have to store their MS meds at a certain temperature in the fridge. Do you have a special meds fridge, so you know that the medication is at its correct temperature all the time, or do you just store it in your ordinary fridge in with the foods and other household stuff?

I’m using a thermometer to check the temperature of our elderly indesit fridge and it’s tricky getting it to keep exactly within 2 and 8 degrees. It’ll sometimes go down to zero degrees C or a bit below, or it’ll go up to 9-ish, it fluctuates a bit.

(This is perfectly ok for general purposes, but with meds I know you have to be a bit more careful!)

Hiya, I’m on kesimpta and keep in my fridge, also check the thermometer daily to make sure it’s within range. I believe I read another post they recommended not placing near the sides or near the top or bottom of the fridge. Hope this helps.

Hi there. I keep my Avonex in our everyday fridge. I do keep it on the top shelf but away from the back wall which gets very cold. I think I did once check the temperature but haven’t done for years. I’m thinking that in general the temp across the fridge is pretty even - it’s very well insulated and I think it’s the whole of the back wall that gets cold.

Sorry to say but I think I would be thinking about a new fridge if the temperature varies from 0 to 9.

Yes, trying to get it to range between 2 and 8 is proving quite tricky. It’s either a tiny bit too cool or 1 degree too warm. It’s obvs warmer if the door gets opened a lot during the day, and cooler first thing in the morning when it’s been closed overnight.

Had the fridge about 16 years, though!

I keep Kesimpta in a locked safebox as I have kids and I don’t want them messing with it! Also the metal of the box will keep it cool if the fridge is left open by a forgetful 11 year old looking for snacks!

Does sound like you need a new fridge, not only for the medication but also for the food in it. But could also get a little mini fridge for your medication, then at least it won’t be regularly opened as well, giving you more peace of mind.

Does anyone know how you can tell if the medication has been too cold/hot?
