I’m off to Kefalonia in September and wondered if anyone had any tips for keeping meds as cool as possible without a fridge.
Im just concerned if temperatures reach over 30 ?
On another note this weather is playing havoc with my fatigue and nerve pain in my feet and lower legs .
I take 4 x 10mg Nortriptaline and 20mg Baclofen a few hours before bed and normally sleep well but I’m waking up with my feet on fire and pins and needles are off the chart.
Driving me mad during the day too at the moment.
Sorry for moaning but wondering if anyone has any tips as it may get worse when I’m away in the heat of Greece.
Thanks
Ask the hotel if you can store stuff in their fridge. I use gel cool packs to keep my brain cool and have asked to put the gel packs in a freezer. Has worked on a cruise too. They can’t really say no if it’s for medical purposes.
Thanks GCCK I will ask at the hotel.
I need to check if it’s ok to refrigerate it again once the drug has been out of the fridge.
As GCCK ask the hotel if they would be happy to keep it in their fridge - I did that once and also on a cruise. If that fails then maybe a friendly bar?
When I started on Avonex I was given an insulated carry bag and cool/ ice blocks for carrying the injections on any long journeys.
For flying I asked my MS Nurse/ Neurologist for a letter to explain that I was carrying the needles for medical reasons ( airport security could get a bit nervous about someone carrying syringes onto a plan and did usually want me to open the carry case).
(I am just old enough to remember when some people would keep their milk and similar cool in an unglazed terracotta ‘cooling ‘ pot! You keep the pot wet somewhere in the shade with a slight breeze ( pretty basic and it won’t keep it that cool but should stop it getting too warm)
Thanks Hank_Dogs , the good news is I’ve found out that there is a fridge in our room so thankfully my problem is sorted.
I’ve got a letter from my MS nurse about my medication and she also asks that the airline allows me to carry an extra piece of hand luggage because of it.
Im considering asking for airport assistance. I can walk but find I can’t stand for too long and need to sit down.
I’m more concerned about the airport in Kefalonia as I understand the airport is small and you can end up queuing outside in the heat , which , I will find difficult.
