it's a lovely day but ....

Hiya

it’s a lovely sunny day but I’ve sat out in the sunshine for 1/2 an hour but then tried to stand up and nothing worked!

This has never happened before so it must be my stupid ms reacting to the sunshine!

Does it not let us do anything?

MS is pants at dealing with heat.

Be sure that drink lots.

Thanks for the responses.

This is the first time I’ve been so affected by the sun. In future I’ll have to avoid sitting out in it!

I keep out of the sun and drink lots of water with ice in it. Last time it was this hot I kept a thermos flask with iced water in in nearby. It’s amazing how much you can cool down by drinking something really cold.

Ooh yes a thermos flask is a good idea as my bottle of water was soon yukky warm!

In ms and my HSP, our thermostats are broken !!!

The tiniest rise in temperatures affect me badly. Little energy turns into zilch energy!

Do take a little sun, but keep hydrated.

Hi all,

Yuk its getting hotter!

I can recommend the following, every little helps!

cycling scarves bought from eBay for 99p run one under the cold tap a wear it around your neck or over your head. ( yeah I know it messes up your hair but which is more important nice hair or relief from the heat)

i also carry a fan, yes I know it’s not 1830, but they where used for a reason.

put ice cubes in your tea so it’s not really hot to drink.

don’t sit in a greenhouse! close your blinds/curtains block out the heat from the sun if you can.

best wishes to you all if like me your suffering with the heat. It hopefully won’t last too long.

I have found I’m suffering with the heat much more this year than I have before, but I have a question.

I know how important vitamin D is to us MSers, but I take it in tablet form (with calcium to help absorption, from Aldi!!), which I think gives me 100% RDA plus the vitamin D in the cod liver oil tablets I take which also gives me 100% RDA. RThis means that I’m taking 200% RDA of vit D every day, but I have heard that MSers can safely take a lot more vit D than others and I’ve been taking these tablets for ages and haven’t had any adverse affects.

My question is, how important is it to actually get out in the sun and get vit D that way? Is it be enough just to take it in tablet form, or should I make more of an effort to go outside and brave the sun for even more benefits?

Many thanks for any answers,

Roary,

I don’t think we can get enough vitamin D from the sun. And given that so many of us react so badly to overheating, it’s not likely to happen anyway. If you cover up or even use sufficient sun cream, you won’t absorb vitamin D3. I take 5000iu per day, I think this is fairly normal amongst MSers. My vitamin D levels have been checked and this seems to be the right amount for me. You could ask your GP to test your Vitamin D3 levels and see if you’re taking enough.

I’m ok with the U.K. Summer but struggle if I’m in the sun for more than 15 minutes, so I spend lots of time in the shade.

derek

I take prescription only vitamin D (Colecalciferol) 4 X 20 micrograms per day, along with a high dose of statin so I’m getting enough Vitamin D, I’m assuming I don’t need any additional sun with its harmful rays, so I’m happy to close my blinds and stay in front of the fan.

But I’m still hating the heat and keep feeling the room spin like I’ve been riding a children’s roundabout!

We seem to have two threads about the heat, sun, whatever!

Yesterday I was outside at the shops. Just to see what would happen I walked in the sun for about 10 minutes (yes, I know, crazy). I noticed that my left leg was going a bit numb and I was kind of dragging it. It went when I got into the car (air-conditioning thank heavens, a lifesaver).

Can I take back my comment above where I said I was ok with the heat from the UK weather. I think I’m melting today. Now very, very grumpy. Roll on tomorrow.
