Injuries to muscles

Hi all

I was wondering if this is just me or an ms thing. I will be asking my consultant in May.

A few month’s ago I developed a pain in my right knee. It hurt to bend and ached. This pain got really bad to the point that I couldn’t sit more than 5 minutes before having to stand then that was unbearable after a few minutes so I had to keep alternating. I couldn’t even lay on my right side. It turned out I’d injured my hamstring and had to have physio. There was no obvious reason as to what caused this. Last week my left hand and wrist felt a bit sore. This pain developed diring the day and my hand swelled. The pain was something else, I couldn’t wash/comb my hair, pull up my jeans etc etc. I went to a walk in centre and was told I’ve pulled my tendons! Again no obvious reason how this happened.

I’ve had ms for 11 years now and never had this happen before but to have 2 muscle/tendon “injuries” in a few months for no reason is a bit concerning.

Can anyone relate?

Thank you x

Hi dottydoo

I can relate because my gait has changed due to MS and this has put pressure on joints leading to tendon/muscle injury. The lovely Orthotics team at my local hospital have checked me over and I now have orthotic insoles in my shoes to correct the alignment of ankles, knees and hips. They have helped a lot and I’m not getting the pain I used to have in my feet, ankles and knees; still have the odd knee going out - but that’s a long-standing issue that pre-dated the MS. Still doing the physio exercises I was given when I was pre-teen with dodgy knees! My current physio checks that I’m doing these exercises correctly.

Do you use a walking stick - held in left hand? My right hand does flare up with tendon-like issues from time to time, usually when I’m not using my walking stick properly. I’m considering the switch to an elbow crutch as I feel I’m putting too much pressure/weight through the walking stick - which leads to tendon issues in hand and wrist.
