Feeling quite pleased with myself! Husband has been away for 3 nights with his buddy, watching cricket and I have been managing solo. Been out in the car, friend for lunch, out to lunch with another, and managed showers, etc. Did everything slowly and carefully with either a frame or Rollator…5 hours to go, so maybe I won’t push my luck and just sit with a pot of tea and read! Last year when he went, I fell over in a flower bed outside and it took me 2 hours to get back indoors and right myself. Didn’t tell him - he wouldn’t have gone again!
Great result Lynda,
I get a massive buzz and sense of independent achievement when I keep it together without help from my amazing and supportive wife. As for falling in the garden, that is a bummer. When I hit the deck there are a few specific conditions required for me to get up again so I generally know the location of things for me to climb back up.
My wife was offered the holiday of a lifetime last year and said she would not go unless I got a “Link- alarm” wristband. If I do fall and can not get up I can call a 24 hour help desk whilst still on the floor !
Needless to say I got one and she had a brilliant time whilst I had exclusive control of the TV remote.
Never under estimate the value of coping.
All the best Mick
Nice one Lynda.
Now I’m on my own, I’ve been slowly getting to grips with everything. Life is now slow but I’m looking forward to lots of football on the telly.
Best wishes, Steve.
Always a confidence booster to anyone completing a self made task, so well done on that score.
l bought a hot tub - birthday present to my OH. l have not been able to get in out of a normal bath for years - so l did not think l would manage the hot tub. We are using Epsom Salts [ magnesium ]in it- good for joints/muscles/skin - well just about everything. So l was tempted to try it - and oh how thrilled l was to be able to get in - and out - and now l have done it on my own. lt really massages you - especially neck and shoulders. And l find myself doing lots of spinal twists and turn exercises in the water - which l cannot do out of the tub. And l sleep better without having to take any pain-killers.
Early days - but l am hoping it will improve what mobility l have left.
Hi Spacejacket…I am looking at buying a hot tub…I am so pleased it helps I can’t wait to get one to see how it helps my other half…epsom slats you say?
Regarding your bath tub…I bought a bathing cushion to help my partner get in and out of the bath and it really helps - she loves it.
We have neighbours who have had hot tubs for some years. And they were able to point out the do’s and don’ts.
The latest one they have is the best so far - so that helped the decision as to what we should buy. lt is a inflatable - hexagon shaped - very well made - and the sides are firm enough to sit on. lt is a lntex - and l got it from amazon - they seemed to be the best price when l was looking. This one was under £500. Came from Germany. We have it set up on the decking - on a large piece of marine-ply we put down so that the base was completely smooth and flat.
We do have solar-panels on our roof - so during daylight hours our electricty is free - so we make the most of this - switching the heater off when we go to bed. l do like using the tub prior to going to bed - and looking up at the dark sky and stars is pretty special.
OH - does keep a check on water quality - changing filters and changing the water after a couple of weeks. He does put chlorine in,but only the minimum to keep it ‘healthy’. l add the Epsom Salts - quite a lot at the start - now just a bit every other day. Magnesium is so important to us all - especially with Vitd3. And it is well absorbed through the skin.
Every time l use it - l find l am getting in and out of it easier. At first l was holding onto rollator and a set of steps - still have them at hand - well l need the rollator to get me indoors!
