hi Gang!
Maybe some of you recall the trouble I had with my ceiling hoist…?
Well incase not, heres a quick rundown of what
s gone on.
In 2011 we had a floor hoist deliverd, as my transfers were so bad and difficult for me and my carers.
Well what a monster that turned out to be. It took up so much floor space that hubby had to move into the spare bedroom. Then it was so heavy to move on carpet. Even my strong hubby found it hard to work.
A while after it went back to stores, we had a ceiling hoist installed. there was a rail in the lounge and another in the bedroom. No floor space needed, so hubby moved back in with me. All was well and i had a fab time spinning around in mid air!
10 months later, we noticed the lifting tape was fraying. Within 5 days it looked like a rat had been at it!
A new unit was brought in. we were told to watch for fraying signs before it got so bad, if it happened again.
Within 2 months, we saw fraying again. i called the OT who initially organised the hoist. She was aghast to see/hear what had happened and got the firm back to discuss the problems.
yesterday a chap from Housing Adaptations arrived and told us the hoist firm was crediting them a full refund. This feller told us there have been umpteen problems with this type of hoist (Freeway P-200) and there was a significant design flaw. Yeh, I know!
So now I have been told a different type of hoist will be installed…a fixed unit in each room. This will be easier than having to shift the hoist from room to room.
I`ve been told i wont be means trested again, but I hope that doesnt happen…stress I dont need!
So, let`s see what occurs, eh?
