Don’t think it’s going to get particularly hot here in central Scotland but just in case, I’ve bought myself an electric neck fan. Haven’t had much hot weather here for a week to test its effectiveness but have tried it a few times : it’s light to wear and does blow air around my neck and head , and does cool me down. Got mine online from J Lewis but they are available from various stores etc.
Hi @ Hank Dogs, sounds good, might have a look myself, I’m in West Yorkshire and it’s been a bit cooler here too, but for future could be a good thing
Thanks for sharing will definitely have a look because as soon as it warms up the hyperhidrosis starts so that would be very beneficial!
@animali @greenhouse tried it this evening in the garden while trying to mow the lawn. It did help me and I’ve discovered an additional benefit- it helps keep the pesky Scottish midges away from my head. It has 3 speed settings and is very light - I more or less didn’t notice it apart from the breeze around my head and the hum of the fan. Will recharge it now
Thank you so much, ive just purchased one and it’s being shipped out tomorrow.
I use to love the heat, until I was diagnosed and now has such a negative effect on my ms. It’s meant to be very hot for the next few days so it’ll help me. Thanks again for sharing.
My stepdaughter has hyperhidrosis. I must get one for her
It’s a hideous complaint that ms has given me, but here’s hoping it’ll give me some relief as it’s going to be hot my way over the next few days so I’ll be mostly indoors in the shade! x
Hi @Hank Dogs, that all sounds really positive I will get on it ASAP.
Jean
If this works, it will be a picture of a cooling vest with built-in motor and fans that I’ve got. Apparently they are very popular with construction and road workers in Japan, where it can be very humid.
Many thanks . You have one? How well does it work ?
I’ll try anything to help reduce the effects of hot weather ! It’s never too bad here in Scotland but my sympathies to anyone in the south east and midlands of England
Just an update, mine was delivered today put it on charge as soon as it was out of the box. It definitely keeps my face and neck cool which is wonderful, especially as it’s so very hot in Suffolk.
So far it’s made a difference so that’s a win in my books!
Hiya
I hope not as the heat here last Saturday was unbearable. I used to love the sun but have had to become a shade seeker
It’s particularly good for humidity because the fans assist with evaporative cooling from your own perspiration. In my experience, it’s not as good at keeping core body temperature down as the close-fitting vest packed with pouches of PCM that have been cooled in the freezer. Those are brilliant but very expensive though. There are pros and cons with all these things and the good thing about the cheap one with the fan is that with the battery pack in your pocket that will keep going all day long. Obviously proper air-conditioning knocks spots off any of these things, but air-conditioning is no good if you have to be out in the world.
Thanks Alison and useful to know. I’ve looked at the ice vests/ jackets and might get one for if and when it gets hot here again. For the next 10 days the temperature here is going to be 17-18 which is absolutely fine with me
