I am newly diagnosed with MS and learning to deal with the often daily different sensations it brings. One thing that doesn’t seem to be related to MS is my lack of periods. I’m 41 and my last period was in January. Has anyone else stopped having periods due to MS? In my neuro appt. I was told that this was definitely not caused by MS due to different neuro paths blah blah… Whilst I accept that it isn’t a symptom I do wonder whether the stress of having MS could just play about with my menstrual cycle. Or maybe I’m hoping that I’m not gonna have to deal with menopause right now. Anyway, has anyone else found that MS has mucked up their menstrual cyle?
Sorry to say, my cycle has not noticeably been affected by my MS. It sounds like it might be worth having a chat with your GP.
Any sudden big changes in a women menstrual cycle should be brought up to their GP, especially after you have brought it up with your neuro and they told you its not from MS. Its always better to see what a GP says, and if it is menopause, they can help and give advice or order tests if they think its not menopause
Thanks for replying Mitzi, have already booked an appt with GP (4th June was the soonest I could get! he’s very good and experienced with MS, so worth the wait) to talk about this as I forgot to mention it when my MS was being discussed/discovered/diagnosed. I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to deal with menopause right now but I suppose it will have to happen at some point and maybe now is better than later when MS has taken more of it’s toll on me.
Thanks Faula, you’re right it is a non-MS issue, I just wondered if any one else had experienced the same with the stress of an MS episode.
i’ve found that the stress of getting a period effetcs my MS (so stack BC pills so I dont get a period), not the other way around but it would be interesting to know if MS stress does cause other women to skip periods since stress can cause it. i havnt read of it causing that, but you never can read everything about MS there is so much out there
