Been browsing youtube (feeling very bored) and started watching diy hair colouring ( don’t ask ) came across home colouring disasters and it made me think of the times when younger myself attempting to bleach my own very dark brown hair agggh ! First suttle attempt at 14 yrs with sun in! Anyone remember that? Very orange hue but being young and supposedly trendy kept reapplying till I got the colour my very nnaturally blonde best friend had . Well suffice to say never happened and after a tellin off from mum and relentless ribbing from brothers had to go to school next day. Not a happy bunny.! looking back it was quite funny, Just for fun anyone else had hair disaster when young and naive ? Sparkly x
Degrassie junior high, think I remember this. You had the formidable eighties perm I gather ! I think they were eventually made illegal ? Lol xx
same as Jen, my disaster was a perm, i had one when i was 19,OMG i will never evr forget how bad i felt,i came out of the hairdressers that day,and even though it was a heatwave in august,i put my umberella up and ran home in shame,
i got the scissors and cut off most of the curls,so ended with a very short crewcut with hardly any fringe,i cried for weeks,my dad and my brothers thought it was so funny,i didnt live it down for a long time lol.
Hi, my biggest hair disaster did not actually happen when i was young and nieve. It happened in november of last year lol. I found this picture of a hairstyle i liked online, and showed my hairdresser, and she cut it like the picture. It was a bowl cut and looked awful. The only thing my mum could do to sort it out was shave it off grade 2! It has grown bit now and looks ok. love Bex xxx
My mother in law - sadly no longer with us - decided to have her hair cut short for a change, she hated it and bought a wig which she wore until her hair grew longer and she could go back to her old style!
Ah, sun in! Evil, evil stuff! I used it and went a lovely orangey colour, then foolishly tried to colour it back to brown! Suffice to say I now understand that I should have put a red tint on first…my hair had a gorgeous green tinge to it

Xx
Thankyou all for sharing your hair disasters , Im sure looking back on it you find the humour in it. Thank goodness hair grows back! Xx
i had some very dodgy perms (looked like a poodle!)
when i was 20 years old i was goin to a fancy dress party. i had some of those day glo antenna so thought i’d go as a grasshopper.
green tights, a long green jumper, my green antenna and i thought i’d colour my hair too.
i used green food colouring on my blond hair.
looked fab for the party but it wouldnt wash out!
the day after i had a lousy hangover and had to pop to the supermarket.
i was rummaging in the bottom of a chest freezer when my mum came up behind me.
when i stood up she said that i was in a shocking state. hungover and green!

My disaster was this year I had really lovely unusual dark red hair which I got compliments all the time. My husband enlightened me guys don’t fancy red heads he wanted me to go blonde with my boobs was never gonna happen. Anyway i dyed it dark and It went a purple dark colour a lot of people likes it but it totally wrecked my hair. Never again I’m still trying to make it resemble a normal color lol.
I sometimes don’t get recognised, or mistaken for my sister (by her friends, so that’s funny, not to mention the 5yr age gap ) as I do change mines quite dramatically, I’ve been from skinhead to long in terms of style and from platinum blonde to blue/black, with various shades of red and plum in between
So needless to say, I’ve had a few clangers, I remember one self dye where one of the bottles had leaked a bit… my Mum had to go to the chemist to get a 2nd lot to sort it out. Nowadays I’m just using lighter shades of ash blonde as the amount of white means that and bright or dark colours have regrowth hassle, I’m more or less the same shade I was as a child now lol.
My nickname from a couple of people is still Red (anyone old enough will get that!) and it’s not been red for at lease 5 years

Ha ha - Sun In! I think any female who was a teenager in the 80s tried that. And yes, my hair ended up with a fabulous green tinge to it!
You’d think I would’ve learned, but I’m just too tight to go and pay a lot of money for colour at the hairdressers, so still have the odd disaster.
As I get older my hair gets darker, but when I dye it its ‘proper’ colour to cover up the greys, I look really old and tired. So, I’m reverting to blonde. MS may make me feel like poop, but I don’t want to look like poop too!!!
