When I was diagnosed 15 years ago this forum was the next best place to go for information. It’s alot quieter the last few years I think. Is everyone newly diagnosed having milder ms or just getting better treatment. I didn’t have a ms nurse until recently and all I had was a great neurologist and GP and brilliant physics that kept me stable and made me improve massively. Now physios do things differently and neurologist is more relaxed with me even though I’ve progressed a lot in last 4 years. I still come here to read posts but it’s nothing like it used to be

Hi Jimmy
Yes it’s a lot quieter nowadays it’s been like this since the old forum changed to this new one.
Shame really there was always a lot of information to find and also it’s lost its sense of humour.

Don’t know so much about lately but sensed the forum was getting stuffy and over-moderated over the past 2-3 years. Sometimes one needs a bit of controversy and debate to engender a sense of community and group identity. Not to be confused with trolls, but we need some characters!
Whilte I never used to post all that much I used to read it alot. I don’t tend even visit much since the changes. Seems like everyone is editing their sites for use on Stupid… sorry ‘Smart’ devices. I use a PC and having it sit centre of screen = 60/70% of the screen = Blank and I need to f’ing scroll 3/4 times to read what I could have before without needing to scroll once.
Loaded up Autotrader recently and thats the same. everything in the centre with overlay windows.
Only here as needed to kill sometime before heading out as have a wedding to attend on Saturday.
I also think there are lots of places for information that sadly are much easier to navigate than this forum. Hastags on social media mean it’s really easy to access certain topics yet the search bar on the overall forum always seems to come up with really old topics that are no longer relevant to me.
I think that’s right. Plus, an advantage that this site always has had (and still does) over Facebook etc is confidentiality. I think that people just worry less about that than they used to.
I’ve thought the same. 19 years for me. Also agree with all the responses.
Definitely not what it was. Not for the better either sadly
I’ve been here since 2012.
In recent years I have posted rather infrequently but often drop-in and have a read. The forum is certainly much quieter than it once was; I notice some of the more prolific posters seem to have moved-on.
However, changing the face of the forum somehow altered the whole ‘feel’ of the place.
But all things change.
C’est la vie!

The first version of this site was like the wild west at times, with threads firing off in all directions. It was also much more social and various meet ups were arranged all over the UK.
However, that was back in 2002 (probably) and forums were a relatively new idea to be explored. Despite things having moved on, the MSS is still a great source of reliable information and worth sticking with it for that alone.
Anyone one else remember when Goat Serum was a promising new treatment under trial?
I have used and use most of the other sites but don’t find them as good as it was here. All those other sites are moderated and some posts don’t even appear. This place was a place of proper information and chat and bit of banter. Iv used this for 12 or more years and always loved it. Its great cos it’s confidential. Don’t know why it’s not used more nowdays.
Facebook has many similar pages with a more international (or, American) flavour. As such you get a lot of the ‘have a nice day’ toxic positivity, that us cynical Brits who like a good moan tend to find irksome.
I notice this thread has attracted nearly 400 views, which suggests the forum still attracts MSers looking for information.
This site does have views but not as much threads. Old site had so many that I still read,it was a source of everything ms related information. Every symptom I have or had there was post about it here.
Hi there
I used to be on the forums back 2006 and the software the MSS used was so user friendly and after they changed the software it no longer had the quick dynamics. The website was easy on the eyes - no photos, just clear graphics and a clear accessible forum. I still have friends from there to this day

Hello Crumb’s
Like you, I made some lasting friendships and met fair few others at the regular meet ups. I didn’t make the one near Bristol though.
I hope you are doing as well as possible.
We had a MS facebook group with a lady who i was so fond of what a laugh we used to have,Unfortunately she died quite suddenly and it was never the same after that and i dont use socal media its too negative and someone was saying about the toxic positivity also in some groups and i totally agree. Its a good stress relief to have a laugh even if harmless jokes offend it doesn’t matter but unfortunately so many haven’t humour and force this on others. Ive coped with alot in my life through humour and if i dont i get very depressed.I should imagine there is others similar to me. I wonder if we can make a adult humour thread? Would the mods take it down though?
I guess one issue is that this is an MS Soc site and they have reputational risk to manage and potential legal challenges in the grounds of any of the various -isms to protect itself against. Humour is risky. FB has the same issues, but they maybe don’t care!
I agree 100%
The previous forum was somehow friendlier and more user friendly.
I rarely visit this one
Eve
Likewise Eve, but I’ve rediscovered it this week (and y’know I’m never quiet )
It’d be fab if we had a new thread in Everyday Living similar to the daily thread the late Albert Druer began some years ago.
It was like a cafe we’d pop into and many friends were there. All with MS diagnosis, no info or advice on MS needed. Just conversation on any topic in the same thread. Chatting about daily life, holidays, recipes, our families etc.
Hmm, any ideas anyone?
Chrissie x
Love that idea
