I’m feeling a bit sorry for myself today. On top of everything, I’ve got a rotten snotty headcold. Two good friends of mine visited for a therapy swap which was really lovely, but it has driven the lingering cold out. I wonder how ms might affect things like the common cold? (I’m still awaiting diagnosis, possible ms or FND) I feel pretty wiped out at the moment. I still need to be able to do mum things as hubby is out working from early til late. Some days, I just want to curl up in bed for the whole day. Having said that, I’m grateful for lovely friends. I got a lift to school at pickup time so only had to walk back. Go away, fatigue. I need to make the tea…
I feel for you sooo much right now. I’m in a heck of a lot of pain, keep having to go for naps as I feel so wiped out. I had the flu jab the other day too and it made me feel just AWFUL…i checked my tempreature and it was 35.5 (!) what’s that all about?! My MRI…
Be kind to yourself.

sorry that should’ve said awaiting for an MRI…
Hi Bunny, I’m waiting for my first ever MRI too. (Not too long, 4th Jan). Thanks for the hugs, especially as you’re feeling awful too. {Gentle Hugs} back. Hope the pain fades away soon x My lovely aunty just brought us mince pies Little’un gets an early bedtime tonight. What shall I do when she learns to tell the time?!
Hi Reikiblossom,
It’s not so much how MS affects the common cold, but how the common cold affects MS!
Any infection, but especially respiratory infections like colds and flu’ are well-known for aggravating MS symptoms. MS doesn’t make your cold worse, or last any longer, that I know of, but your cold makes MS worse!
Particularly so if it’s a feverish cold. Raised body temperature, from any cause, is often associated with increased symptoms. This is not normally the same as a genuine relapse - symptoms calm down again when the infection, or whatever has been causing the high temperature, goes away.
Paracetamol to bring down your temperature might help.
Hope you feel better soon,
Tina
x
Thanks for that, Tina. Yup, I’ve already had paracetamol. I’ve been a little clumsier than usual - I thought my symptoms were easing off a bit - perhaps this explains it.
I’m feeling pretty rubbish too. Also awaiting an MRI on 14th dec. I work 12 hour shifts so either spend time at work or in bed whilst the kids are at school trying to catch up. I keep having strange goings on though at the mo, dizzy spells with visual disturbances and confusion. Hope you’re feeling better soon xx
Hi Superbecks, good luck for your MRI! I’m still feeling under the weather and not entirely sure if the face ache is my cold or my other symptoms or both. I’m cadging lifts to and from school where possible (I’m so lucky to have some good friends near me). It was really hard walking home this morning, against a strong wind. My legs felt weak and I keep getting fleeting pains in them. So pooped. I’m looking forward to receiving the CC’d letter from my neuro to my GP. I’m curious to know what she’s written. No idea when I’ll receive it though.
Oh dear RB, I hope you feel better soon.
All I can do is agree with Tina. I had a cold a few of weeks ago and ended up in bed for two weeks, mostly sleeping.
I know it’s difficult for you, as you have kiddies, but please try to be kind to yourself and rest whenever you have the opportunity. The housework isn’t going anywhere (unfortunately).
Not long for your MRI now (fingers crossed for you hun). If you don’t get a copy of your letter soon, it may be worth giving the surgery a call and asking them to copy it for you (if they have it). I’ve sometimes received both copies and sometimes neither.
Mags xx
Thankyou Mags Yes, just the one kiddy but she keeps me busy. I’m making the most of these last few weeks of term and trying to rest (though I can’t relax enough to go back to sleep after I’ve dropped her off). I’ll give that letter another week or so before I chase it. In the meantime, I’ve got my Bing Crosby Christmas album on, my favourite series set to record and a steady supply of hot drinks
Ooh, you just reminded me! Have to look for my fave Crosby/Sinatra Christmas album - can’t put the decorations up without it!
xx
