Eyesight recovery

My latest MS relapse has involved a decrease in my vision in both eyes, not from the optic nerve, but from a lesion in the part of my brain affecting sight. I just underwent a full course of high-dose steroids and will not be taking prednisone pills for several weeks. While other symptoms are improving, I had yet to notice a difference in my vision.

In the past I have been fortunate to recover well with steroids. I have also been told that vision recovery takes longer. Can anyone share their experiences in terms of a timeline for vision improvement?

I definitely found my vision the last thing to resolve after my last relapse. It has never gone completely back but is so so much better and continued to improve for about a year afterwards I’d say. The residual damage I’m left with is minor and has become a new normal for me. So I really wouldn’t worry at this point, I think you can afford to be optimistic for a full/nearly full recovery. Really hope that’s the case for you,

Oh and I didn’t have steroids btw so expect for you it’ll be quicker

I had 2 bouts of ON a few months apart. My eyesight has recovered to almost what it was before but according to my ophthalmologist it took around 2 years. Good luck.

I had a lesion in there somewhere that meant that one quadrant of my visual field dropped out in both eyes. It was the weirdest experience. It took a little while to resolve but it did, as the follow-up visual field test confirmed. I hope that you find the same.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Your input is very encouraging.

Wishing you the best of health,
BHB
