Hi Kate, Are you on any meds? Could it be a side-effect of one of them?
Hiya On lots of meds, have been for quite a few months but this is something thats only started in the last couple of weeks and its happening more often. So not sure if it could actually be a new symptom. Thanks for replying. Kate x x
Prochlorperazine, Gabapentin and Amitriptyline etc all cause dry mouth etc.
You can buy artificial saliva over the counter and, despite sounding disgusting, it actually tastes quite nice. I have used the biotene range which includes toothpaste for dry mouth. If you do have a dry mouth it is worth investing in one of these products as reduced saliva means reduced enzymes and an increased risk of decay and these products halp to restore the natural enzyme balance. Try to avoid the acid ones, which reproduce the ‘lemon effect’ on saliva production, as these won’t help your tooth enamel. If you get free prescriptions then ask your GP to prescribe.
Thanks katalina. Im actually waiting to see the Dr now so will ask when I go in. Im on gabapentin and prochlorperazine but not really had a dry mouth until now. The only thing thats changed is ive reduced the prochlorperazine dose , funnily enough my dry mouth started then. …odd. Take care. Kate x x
Hello,
Dry mouth, try using a mouth wash like /Listerine, it is vile stuff but it cleans the nmouth out, and the saliva glands get working, Also chewing gum will work as well
Also note by Katalina is right. Dry mouth encourages bacteria etc.
I get dry mouth all the time, not on any drugs. I used to eat mints but thought they were a bit too sugary, so now i chew gum, although i havent any teeth no lol.
I had terrible auto immune response to my gums and lost my teeth.
I was checked for diabetes but am ok. Thats one of the first symptoms.
Like others have said dry mouth can be caused through meds as well.
Hi, I suffered with dry mouth for years, due to oxybutynin. I know for sure that it caused dry mouth, because I have recently weaned myself off it.
The result is I can talk without my lip sticking to my teeth! I used to drink gallons of water, but it only helped a bit.
Trouble is, I have an spc and my wee goes yellowy/orange in the bag, which reminds to drink more.
If it isn`t your meds, perhaps a GP visit would help.

I only started getting dry mouth when I had part of my jaw bone removed and a partial denture fitted. If I take the denture out I return to normal (or at least as normal as I ever was!). To be on the safe side I would ask the doc. I suck on a boiled sweet which helps.
Suck sugar free sweets, otherwise your teeth suffer! Teresa xx
Hi
This has been a real issue lately for my husband who has SP. Meds are the problem, at the moment he takes Salivax and Salagen. One is a pastille that you take as and when the other is a tablet that increases saliva production. They do help but seems to be something he has to live with. Of course everything else has been explored first with consultant and MS nurse.
Hello to you all A foggy brain has meant I’ve kept forgetting to add my views. My antidote for this problem is a product from a high street chemist with the name of footwear, it’s a spray found in the dental section called expert dental dry mouth spray. It’s a small bottle that brings immediate relief for this side effect of all our meds, it has a pleasant minty taste and 3 sprays at a time does the trick. I’ve used it for 2 years
