Dry Mouth

Hi, I’ve just started taking Duloxetine 60mgs and found I have a very dry mouth. Ended up drinking loads of water last night which just led to problems with my already overactive twitchy bladder. Was just wondering if anyone had any advise on how to help with the dry mouth…

I can’t help, but I suffer with this too, and its driving me crackers! I’ve tried lozenges etc, but afraid to fall asleep with anything in my mouth, and drinking more just keeps getting me up all night. I sympathise xx

I take amitriptline and baclofen and also have a drymouth, I think its a side effect of the medication.

Hi, I used to take oxybutynin and stopped after having a suprapubic catheter fitted last year.

I also take amitriptyline.

I thought both the meds caused a very dry mouth.

Now I have normal moist mouth, so it must`ve been the former med.

I coudnt find a solution that worked, except to drink lots of water. It really was a problem at times, with sore throats and lips sticking to teeth…not an attractive look!

I was prescribed a gel and a spray…their effectiveness didnt last long.

I’m the same as Pam with what I take And also get a dry month I drink all the time

I take oxybutynin and get a dry mouth. During the day I’m always chewing gum not a good look but does help. For the night I’ve always got a bottle of water beside my bed.

Hi, I have sjogrens so pretty much an expert on all things dry mouth! Easy thing is gum and lots of water to sip on. I find that water with fizz (or quite often diet Pepsi) stimulates saliva most. Also anything sour. Sometimes I will sip on a fizzy water with lime juice in it. If it’s really bad and you don’t mind spending a little bit of money, Biotene gel is amazing (or your doc can prescribe) and also Salivix pastilles. Both should be available to buy at the chemist, but they may have to order for you, especially small chemist. Actually thinking about it, you can get Biotene on Amazon and maybe Salivix too. Thanks for all the replies… I was chewing gum loads yesterday and sucking tic tacs. Will ask doc about the gel next week.

I’m on tizanidine and other meds and get a dry mouth - always have a bottle of water with me.

However, for times you can’t the chemist, that is the name of things you wear on your feet have a

DRY MOUTH SPRAY - small 50ml handbag/pocket size works a treat £2.55

Highly recommend.
