Doing the dishes

OK a rather dull topic but I would like some advice on how you do your dishes. Big fight in my house, I have Secondary Progressive MS I do what I can around the house, hoover, take the bins out, put the washing on, make the bed. Tonight I was crippled over the sink when doing them. I am like this every day. My wife comes in and says ‘Paul, you like a cripple take a stool to to the dishes’ sounds great in theory but if I did that I would be the length of my thigh from the edge of the sink. So to help stop fights in my house how do you guys do you hand wash your dishes? Told you it was dull

Hi Paul. Not dull at all mate - I imagine a few folks might be interested in the replies you get. My mobility is still ok but, my left hand stopped working for a while (it tremors now) so I was using the muscle in that shoulder to pin stuff down with my left hand so that I could wash it with the right. If such a thing is available - would a perching stool with something like a bycicle seat help to support you in the right place?

My main issue (because of my vision) is the laundry. Like those flippin’ hoodies if 1 arm and the hood is inside out, that tends to confuse me a bit. Trying to fold a fitted sheet is just like a Krypton Factor challenge

Well done for soldering on mate :+1:

All the best.

Jon.

I feel your pain with the fitted sheets. I am glad you mentioned you get confused with your hoodys. Not an issue for me, but I thought it was just me when doing the washing and I completely understand this now. When hanging up my wife’s pyjamas I thought it was hell on earth. Long sleeves, the amount of time I have spent nearly getting it done only to find it is partially inside out.

My stuff is t-shirts so a lot easier.

But I did appreciate the krypton factor comment. Now that is going back to late 80’s early 90’s .

I can’t believe to 90’s is about 30 plus years ago.

I have used a saddle stool for years and find it works perfectly well for scooting about the kitchen. This review by an MSer should give you some idea of what to expect.
