Hi All, I’m not diagnosed and no where near it but all my symptoms lead to ms, my aunty has ms and says my symptoms really mirror hers however go and ask your gp she said, so i did.
Doc said- if you had ms you would stagger in here and you would be blind!!!
this is my dilema…
He told me I have Fibromyalgia and gave me tramadol and that night before I took them I had double vision and walked into a door and this isn’t the first time it had happened, help me, what do i do now, see another gp, go back to him???
I’ve been diagnosed with MS two years, and (my belief) had it a lot of years before that, but I’ve NEVER been blind, nor been visibly staggering. Pain and subtle difficulties with balance, yes, but not so a stranger watching me walk into a room would be able to tell.
Unfortunately, most GPs have little clue about MS. Even mine, in a long career in a busy city practice, has had only three or four MS patients EVER. So they can’t be expected to be well-versed in something that hardly ever comes up.
I don’t think you have anything to lose, and probably a lot to gain, by trying someone different.
Of course, having a relative with MS doesn’t mean that’s necessarily what it is, and might have made you a bit paranoid about it, when it really is something quite different. So your doctor could be right. But incidence in the family is certainly something they usually look at, when considering whether you do/might have MS. It’s not directly inherited, but multiple instances in the same family are not uncommon either: about 1 in 5 diagnosed people have a blood relative who is/was also affected.
In view of what is known about the family, I think your symptoms merit further investigation. Try another doctor!
Hello and welcome to the site Some GPs have the strangest notions about MS! Please see someone else. It may not be MS (there are literally hundreds of mimics, some of which are treatable, including vitamin deficiencies), but it should be properly investigated! Good luck. Karen x
Thank you for you replies, and I will see another gp.
My symptoms have been there for 6 months now and getting a bit fed up with what it could be, had my app with gp and then looked on this forum for the 1st time to see if others had those symptoms different from my aunt as she is not blind and only staggers when drunk and yes made her giggle too, then obviously wanted to go and see him…
anyway on looking at your forum, Can I stay, you all are lovely and have time for lost peeps like me…Janis xx
