DFGs

Hi all, has anyone had any experience with DFGs, I am in the he process of going througg early stages, the works the OT have identified is well over the grant limit.

Just wondering what happens in these cases.

Any advice would be appreciated

Hi, over the years I have needed big project money .

These include bedroom to wetroom, 2 ceiling hoists and WAVs.

The council, our Bank manager, our small savings, PIP and local MS group has funded the work.

My OT said said she knew of other charities she could ask for me.
Food for though eh?

Boudsx

Thanks for your reply, the current limit in my area is 30k they have estimated the works in the region of 110k, we are a young family with not much savings just a scary situation on the cost. As don’t have a clue where the rest of the money going to come from

Hi
Have a look online at your local authority DFG policy. It’s usually 30k maximum for a mandatory award. They may provide discretionary funding above that in case of hardship or they might offer a loan.

The DFG team can also offer further assistance where the additional money might come from. You can also get advice at local citizens advice.
If you/ partner have any charity connections from previous employment then you can approach them (eg forces - British legion fund such things).

Trouble is if you have worked and have to claim you’ll get contribution based benefits, which means you apparently have too much income! For SSAFA,RAFA and BL. Better trying your own asssociation.

Stating the obvious: a grant is a donation to people who can’t afford to do things for themselves. Basically if you can afford to do the work yourself, you won’t get a grant. It’s only free money to those who don’t have any.

If the requirements are so expensive, expect the contributing local authority to get very prescriptive about where they think you should live. More likely to get rehoused rather than adapt a basically unsuitable property.
